Official official offseason thread

It seems like AA has the mindset of "if you can't improve positions of need, get better players at the positions where you don't have an urgent need." Although I still feel like this move was made more for 2024-2025 than for the upcoming season.

AA said in an interview that he made this move now, because he felt he couldn't get him in 24 or 25. So that was the play.

Still curious why we have 2 big holes in the lineup.

This has been a very strange offseason so far. AA's big move was to upgrade a position that was already strong, and it's been crickets for the positions of clear need.

I feel like Conforto pretty much has to happen at this point. He's the only real upgrade remaining. Hopefully that doesn't mean AA gives him too many years like he did with Ozuna and Rosario.

Lol I don’t know what’s more concerning at this point: if we sign Conforto at all or if we sign him but give him too many years? The longer this goes on the more it feels like it won’t happen. We’ll see soon enough I guess.

My position - not that anyone cares - is that we are in pretty damn good shape. 1-7 is freaking stacked. 8 with Arcia and 9 with Ozuna /Duvall/Rosario…. Isn’t the worst black hole imaginable.
Healthy Acuna and Ozzie, Olson won’t be as bad, and this team is gonna score a ton.
The SP is excellent. The BP is superb.

I’m happy and comfortable going to war with this group and think we should be able to win the East again. Especially if we don’t start off cold as hell. Hopefully we learned a lesson from that.
Says here we are probably three+ games up at the trade deadline and then can make the moves we need (assuming some talent emerges down in Rome )

Folks relying on TDA/Murphy to fill a large portion of the DH PAs are either overestimating TDA's bat, or overestimating the workload Murphy should be handling. Those guys should probably be DHing only vs LHP, and TDA at DH isn't exactly "stacked".

The Brave are weak in 3 areas: LF, DH, SS...in that order. Unfortunately, the non-$300M everyday OF option doesn't exist in this FA market.

A 1 year deal for Conforto doesn’t make him an every day OF?

The ship of being stacked at every position including DH has long since sailed. I'd settle for no automatic outs in those last three spots, with competent (at least league average) defense at SS. TDA at his 2022 level isn't elite as a hitter, but he keeps someone like 2022 Ozuna/Rosario on the bench those days.

I think Texas don’t have any problem to pay a long term contract. Boras is shooting for the moon always.

Coming off a major shoulder injury and having missed an entire year? I’ll be shocked if he gets a long term deal. Although with how dumb owners are and in this market, who knows.

I am not sure if they are looking to trade him but one player that I think the Braves should take a look is David Fletcher. He is 28 and under contract for the next 5 years with a team friendly contract. Ohtani probably is leaving next year and they always having a hard time adding pitchers to that rotation.

I don't know how it could stack up, but I wonder if the Yankees will trade Kiner-Falefa with Peraza ready to go and Volpe not that far away. Kiner-Falefa isn't much of a hitter, but his defense looks to be decent (hard to tell from seemingly disparate statistical measurements).

Now I’m convinced we’re out of money. Not sure how or why with the recent World Series and the Battery as a cash cow, but here we are.
