Official official offseason thread

Bench will be TDA/Ozuna, Luplow/Rosario, Arcia, and either Adrianza or Hilliard for the last spot. Roster should now be fully set. At least half a dozen better, should have been affordable, options left on the table.

I’m not convinced AA is going to allow the bottom of the roster to be that poor.

It’s looking more and more likely it isn’t up to AA entirely.

Maybe it's not Conforto like Scheff thinks but i find it hard to believe Hillard/Adrianza are on the bench when Hillard is a left handed version of Luplow. I just cant see it, even if money is tight.

I don't think ludlow and Hilliard are similar. Ludlow actually hits lhp well; Hilliard doesn't hit anyone

If we are going cheap ass, then I'd like to find at least one more lefty reliever who could be a solid option in the event of a Minter injury or Lee not performing well. Right now, it looks like our third lefty option is Allard? Yuck.

Man some of you guys will die at the alter of AA. Copy redux. We think that he is going to add a 5th OF for the the team. I see another pen guy that is meh to good being signed and rolling. We just gotta pray we are healthy this year.

What are you talking about? Every team has to stay relatively healthy.

Mind taking a guess on how many teams in the NL are projected to win more than the Braves right now?

Again. I didn’t say we are a bad team. Which are what projections are built on. And yes every team has to be healthy. But we are now razor thin everywhere sans pitching. Only place where we might not see a huge drop in production would be DH or SS. Both are average to start.

but AA knows what he’s doing. No way he would not understand the cap implications or not upgrade a position that clearly needed to be. I am sorry I questioned his direction this off season.

I think AA does know what he's doing. Which is why the Braves, as constructed, are going to be one of the best teams in the league again.

Again, what 4 WAR SS or LF are you getting with what we gave up that has 3 years of service time left? The answer is nobody. Our big money move just happened to be our own guy before the season was over.

You can say that AA may not have understood the cap situation when giving out all those extensions. But not even a year later and I would have to think the prices on those FA years that were bought out would be a tad bit higher after the money that has been thrown out there this offseason.

But yeah, be upset there weren't any flashy moves and complain about the 2 spots on the roster where we will get below average production.

I am complaining about his direction. Not the team. We made a win now move by getting a catcher who is older and less controlled and gave up 5 players to do so. We gave up one of our few hitting prospects left to get a reliever controlled for one year. But that is it.

It is like he doubled down on a six and drew a five. We pushed in our bet and can’t take the next card that might improve our chances. I think if you are going out to get Murphy then you have to suck up the fact you are over paying for a SS. By the time Turners deal goes south our window is most likely closed. Especially as we keep giving the farm and controlled players away.

This team will be good. Probably for the next three years at least. And he might do somethings that extend our window the next few years. But I don’t just put blind faith because he is AA. I really question what direction he is really trying to go here.

Braves with AA as GM...
411-296 (.581)
5 for 5 in division titles
2 NLCS losses
1 WS

Acuna, albies, Olson, Harris, strider, wright, and riley under team control for multiple years.

Sorry if I give the man the benefit of the doubt

There's no one on the board who'd change any of that. No GM is perfect...yada yada. However, there are moves or strategies that are fair to question. This offseason can certainly be questioned without saying AA sucks. In a vacuum I am not a fan of the Murphy trade but I understand the thought behind it. If that's doubting AA, it is what it is.
