Official official offseason thread

I just studied up on Grissom….. hell, I think we are aren’t gonna miss Dansby at SS too much at all. He outta hit about 280 - maybe more - and hit 20 with probably 25 + SBs and a decent walk rate. Working with Wash down in New Orleans for three weeks on defense.
I’ll take that all day.

Everyone will miss the Dansby that was a 6.4 fwar player in 2022. Nobody will miss the Dansby that put up 9.8 fwar over his first 5 seasons.

I think it’s very likely Grissom / Arica will be equal to Dansby’s first 5 years.

I wonder which Dansby the Cubs signed? My money is on Dansby being their next Heyward.

Signing Jansen to 2 years makes zero sense IMO.....With the rule changes this season regarding throwing over and the larger bases, a walk or single are automatically a double with him on the mound.

We got 41 saves from him last season, but it feels like he blew 10....(i know he didn't but it feels like it)

I think we could still add a pen arm between now and spring training. AA was adamant in an interview recently that the Braves only have $1.4m in guaranteed contracts signed this offseason. Anderson was signed on a non-guaranteed contract. So if Kimbrel or Chapman are willing to take a skinny deal to play for a contender, that is the type of arm AA usually goes for. Prior closing experience to be used as set up.

I was okay letting Jansen walk given pitch clock and throwbacks to 1st, etc but i do like having Iggy in like a 7th-8th inning role as opposed to set in the 9th. I'm fine with our pen as is, but if you can get someone to take a small discount, then sure. I just want a LF'er, and let's roll.

I’ll keep saying it until AA does something about it. I’m not cool with Allard being our third lefty reliever option. Not really crazy about Lee being our second option at that.

Reading that AA answer on Ozuna, it’s clear to me he will keep trying to trade him all the way up to the final day of spring training. But either Ozuna needs to come around and be used or he needs to be traded or released. The roster spot is more important. We should sign another OF, plan on Hilliard being in Triple A, and if Ozuna doesn’t shape up, cut him and bring Hilliard up for the last roster spot. Or go with a third catcher if you feel like TDA and Murphy need to be in the same lineup more often.

AA might have just meant that he was unsure of the DUI laws in Florida and how long he'll be held if he gets pulled over again. Might overlap with opening day. :-)

Dont think you really need a bunch of lefties in the pen. 2 is enough. Dodgers only have Vesia, Astros dont even use one. Philly only has Alvarado.

Wil Myers to the Reds.

I think the Braves are missing opportunity to sign players that play multiple positions. Last year I feel we got tired at the end of the season trying to catch the Mets.

Ozuna and Rosario are holding up roster spots. But a guy like Myers would have been good. Only got 7.5 million which isnt too bad unless we're outta money. I still contend AA will make a move but each passing day guys come off the board... And...

I mean we're basically down to Profar, Pollock, Peralta, and Duvall that I can think of free agent-wise as options who can play multiple spots. I guess Pham would be a possibility, but I've heard/read where he's a real turd in the locker room. I'm not even considering us as a factor in the Conforto sweepstakes. Someone is going to cave and give him a two-year deal north of $10M annually.

or trade for Kepler.

No thanks. Pointless and a waste of resources. Save the trade ammo for someone better and probably for the deadline.

If we're talking just FA options, you're probably right. And i agree i dont see us in it for Conforto, AA doesnt mess with Boras guys to my knowledge.

I'll bet AA has some guys in mind we have not thought of. I always laugh at the small list of possibles that we come up with as the only acceptable options.

I thought he would have been a logical addition, but there's a bit of a logjam out there now with Ozuna/Rosario/Luplow.

It’s clear we don’t want to add anymore payroll and get hit with the tax. If we didn’t sign the top end like Correa or Turner, or the middle end like Dansby or Xander, and we aren’t signing the bottom end like Myers, it’s clear we have no intention to add more payroll. And the only way we add now or at the deadline is if we somehow get someone to take Ozuna or Rosario off our hands and eat their salary. It’s truly sad when you think about it. We just won the World Series, had a record attendance last season, and have the Battery as a cash cow; but nope, we don’t want to spend anymore.

If you aren't a fan of Acuna and his passion for the game and the energy he brings, then you are a miserable person.

Also, the MLB (and the Braves) is missing a huge opportunity not marketing up these young, exciting guys. They'd rather tamper with different types baseballs and worry about pitch clocks. Like the average potential MLB fan is gonna notice a difference in a 2.75 hr game vs a 2.5 hr game. If you want to grow the sport, you have to sell the players.

Mandick is too stupid, selfish and ignorant to do anything good for the sport. The day he leaves as commissioner can’t come soon enough.

I think we'll add at the deadline, we normally do. Given the rest of this offseason, yeah only adding Murphy/Jimenez in trade is wild. Even though we didnt have a ton of needs. I just ask for one outfielder who isnt awful lol.
