Official official offseason thread

Apparently the Pirates want a high end pitcher for Reynolds. Wright probably gets it done, so if you think he’s flukey that would be a good trade.

Hopefully AA is trying to convince the Pirates that Anderson is a #2 that needed a reset, and pairing him with something like Grissom gets it done. Highly unlikely, but that would be amazing.

Lol, if AA pulled off your 2nd paragraph, he deserves one of his "extensions"

Man that would be difficult. Wright seems to have turned a corner and with Morton long in the tooth and Fried 2 years away from FA we almost have to keep Wright.

Wright for Reynolds only makes sense if you think he’s a 3-4 rather than a 2-3. His K rate suggests a 3-4, but it’s hard to give up on the guy he flashes as being.

For this roster right now I’d be against flipping Wright for Reynolds, but I’d certainly understand the desire to sell high on a pitcher if it happened.

Wright could fall flat on his face next year we have no clue bc he’s had a shaky past outside of this past year. I guess they have to decide if going forward he is 2022 Wright.

I don’t think we can afford to flip Wright right now with Soroka, Anderson, and Morton’s futures being up in the air.

If we had any semblance of depth at sp, I’d move Wright for Reynolds. For all we know, last season could have been Wright’s career season. If he comes back down to earth like Ian did, then we’ll have squandered all of his value. I’d like to think AA has enough data to make a healthy projection on how he feels Wright continues progressing, but then again we kept pushing forward with Ian and his value is peanuts compared to what it was this time mast year. Plus I’d like to think if he had an idea what pitching it would take to get Reynolds, he would have used money on signing a starter. Are there any starters worth a damn left in free agency?

I thought the pirates wanted prospects, not actually good MLB players.

If Wright and maybe some minor pieces gets it done for Reynolds, I'd think about it. AA probably not b/c every post season we seem to end up with two starters.

We also do not know what the team thinks about Soroka and Anderson.

But Reynolds in LF gives us elite OF defense. Helps out every day hitting a ton. Means our island of misfit toys he's assembled only need to cover DH. And I feel better about us being able to find a decent pitcher to take a one year deal.

My only hope on Reynolds deal is that you can now trade players that are drafted. So can you center your package around the two picks you have for first round and Dansby? Draft who the pirates want and then trade them to the pirates at PTBNL.

I really don’t think we need Reynolds to win the East. We need to be stocking the farm instead of giving up what precious little have left- especially not pitching- imho, we need every stinking pitcher we have. I think our pitching is very good to excellent and can win us a ton of games - but injuries can happen and guys will need to limit some innings - and I’d feel much better if we had the expected four plus Anderson, Soroka, Elder, etc.

Yeah I don’t think I could trade Wright right now. And if we put Grissom in the deal, we’d either have to make a separate trade for someone under control like Mateo or keep stop-gapping until we develop one or someone else becomes available.

If you can get Reynolds for Grissom, you roll with Arcia at SS. It makes us an infinitely better team. There likely won’t be much if a difference between Grissom and Arcia this year.

I would do Anderson, Grissom, and 2 other prospects/draft picks. At least that’s as far as I’d be willing to go. But I think there’s enough smoke out there that the Yankees will get something done. I still won’t be surprised if the Mets sneak in, especially in the unlikely case that the Correa deal completely falls apart.

AA usually gets his guy. He wanted the reliever he just got that he’s been trying to get for a few now and he’s been trying to get Reynolds since 2021. If Grissom is what it would take then use him in a deal and sign Andrus and between him and Arcia SS should be covered. This may be AA’s last chance at Reynolds. With Reynolds our lineup is gonna be hard to pitch around. Him and Albies are both SH so Reynolds between Acuna and Riley would make this lineup really scary.

Sadly I think it would take more than Grissom. Probably Grissom++ or Wright+. While I would do this deal and not think twice about it, I’m not sure AA will/would.

The Pirates wanting Grissom as a centerpiece would be pretty silly considering what they have in Cruz. Maybe as a second baseman? They don’t really need a young third baseman either. Also sounds like they want pitching if they trade Reynolds.

I mean one of the main reasons we are willing to trade him is there is some uncertainty about him as a shortstop as opposed to a second baseman.

Ozuna wasn't ever really supposed to play much in the field.

If his bat rebounds to to his 2022 xwoba (72nd percentile) that's probably ok.

Better than eating his contract anyway.

Something about Ozuna makes him consistently underperform his xwOBA. So much so that I’ve stopped using it to help projecting him to “rebound”. However, if he can post his projected ~.750 OPS over ~500 PAs with 20+ bombs out of the 6/7 hole, the Braves won’t be in too bad of shape at DH. That’s something like 1.5 wins, which obviously isn’t good, but it isn’t a complete disaster either.
