Official official offseason thread

Padres have a lot of money coming off the books next year so I wouldn’t put it past them to throw the kitchen sink at him.

They also have to replace a ton of players next year. Darvish, Snell, Machado, Pomeranz, and Hader all scheduled for free agency. Can never doubt Preller though lol.

For Caleb Durbin and Indigo Diaz. The Yankees had just DFA'd Leutge.

Diaz at one point last year looked like he was going to be a quick riser and could be a late inning bullpen weapon. Just walked too many guys this year.

Durbin was a 15th round pick in 2021.

Braves DFA'd Lewin Diaz

L. Diaz DFA's for the 4th time this year!

Curious to see how it goes for I. Diaz. Really rose fast for a 27th round pick, but like you say, couldn't seem to hit the ocean from the shore this past season. Never a good sign when you walk more guys than hits allowed. Still has big fastball.

I found Durbin interesting, but he's in a logjam with all the other utility types that the Braves have in A and AA. Reminds me a bit of Greg Cullen, who the Braves drafted in the 15th round in 2018. Durbin struck out a grand total of 10 times in three college seasons at Washington (MO) University. It's NCAA Division III level baseball, but I still think it's impressive. Started well in Augusta, but looked to hit a bit of a wall in Rome.

It’s odd watching AA play musical chairs with the last few spots on the roster in the middle of the offseason like this. These guys are getting acquired and dumped every couple days.

I think he’s trying to see who he can get to clear waivers and assign to AAA.

Jackson Stephens will probably be DFA’d soon

Playing with the bottom of the 40 man roster isn’t usually his thing though.

Eli White is from Greenville, South Carolina, and probably grew up a Braves' fan and as a result is giving the Braves a hometown discount and has agreed to play for free.

When we were all speculating about how this offseason would play out I bet nobody predicted AA would turn the catching depth into Murphy and leave LF, DH and SS unaddressed.

This has been the oddest offseason for the Braves I can remember. AA always pulls off unexpected moves, but those moves always fill the obvious holes on the roster.

Just want to remind everyone, for perspective, the Braves are currently over the luxury tax. Think about that. Did anyone realistically think, even as far back as just a year ago, that the Braves would ever seriously be a luxury tax team???

No, which is why it’s so odd to see folks complain about “ownership not wanting to win”, or “being cheap”.

This is a very good and very expensive team.

I feel like AA is just trolling everyone...he will trade Ozuna, and drop under the tax threshold lmao

thethe did a few years ago lol, although i dont know if that was sarcasm or not.

The Braves have became a powerhouse. Locking up the core will allow the farm to grow similar to the way the Dodgers have stayed competitive. With the international sanctions gone we should have a good farm system again in 3-4 years.

Padres reportedly open to trading Kim and Grisham. Would probably seek back-end starting pitching in return. Maybe call them about Kim? Grisham would be nice to have out in the outfield, but his offense is slipping.

A deal centered around Anderson for Kim is certainly interesting to think about. It was obvious he may be available the moment Xander was signed.
