Official official offseason thread

Yes, society has always had "degrees of dispicability." It's why the penalities for DV are generally substantially less severe than sexual assault. The acts are not similar in any sense. You have be pretty ****ing evil to commit sexual assault.

I think both are. But did he commit sexual assault?

I know the penalty for both and sexual assault is a much harsher sentence. So yes, by law there are degrees. But this isn’t about law or we wouldn’t even be talking about this since he was not convicted.

You have to be pretty evil to beat your wife, too

Bottom line to this narrative is neither was convicted. If signing Bauer would give more likelyhood to Braves winning another WS, Im all for it. Especially considering his (hopeful) performance/contributions at cost of $720K versus Ozuna/s hopeful performance (at best) at cost of $18M.

I mean the details are awful. He admitted (or at least he doesn't deny) to doing pretty much everything to her that was alleged. The only question is whether it was consensual. It doesn't seem like they could prove it wasn't consensual, so no charges. That doesn't mean it was consensual, they just couldn't prove it wasn't.

Should we give OJ the benefit of the doubt since he was never convicted?

Didn't the alleged victim of Bauer basically ask him to do all that crap in texts?

Do we really have to keep arguing about this? There is a definitive gap between beating your wife and raping someone. I don't know why people are arguing about this. Both are reprehensible, but one is undeniably viewed as far more heinous. So much so that even the law agrees which one is worse.

Ultimately, Cox's situation isn't viewed as bad now b/c it happened nearly 30 years ago.

Some of it at least. But even with asking for things, you can still take it over too far.

If she was unconscious like she says, that's pretty messed up in so many ways. 1st, that he would hit her hard enough to make her pass out and secondly, that he would continue on since she can't exactly give consent while she's unconscious.

And it’s one thing to not not be a popular guy in the clubhouse. It’s another to be unlikeable AND have this surrounding you.

I think your last statement is ultimately the correct answer. DV and other egregious acts were not made a big deal of 30 years ago. It was a different time in awarness. But it doesn't make Cox any better of a person imo. He had a short fuse on the field and I would be willing to bet he had a short fuse at home as well.

To your point of somehow comparing DV and SA as level of heinous is just wrong. If your daughter was punched by her boyfriend versus sexually assualted by her boyfriend.. are you forgiving him because it is less egregious in the eyes of the court... I would hope not.

Also you comparing this to OJ is wrong too.. like the King cops, OJ went to trail.. we all saw the evidence, it was clear the outcome expect for a select 12 for whatever reason. Bauer, was never tried, we don't know any of the evidence other than hearsay... I am not willing to convict him in my public opinion off of that.. Do I think the Braves should go get him.. not really.. I think we are pretty good as is.. I am not sure any team will take a shot really.. not in today's culture.

Kobe Bryant was charged with rape, and he's celebrated to this day. Is bauer's blacklist bc he's a total douche?

I think ultimately that is it. Kobe appoligized, stayed married and had a family.. Bauer likes to talk trash, called out baseball for ignoring illegal crap, and self promoted to a level of annoying.

The moral compass is whatever that individual thinks is right /wrong, what's forgivable and what is not. There are bad people who do bad things. I'm not a moral judge otherwise this country wouldn't be the shytshow it is today. People are outraged about whatever they feel.

From a baseball perspective, I wouldn't want Bauer because he "feels" like the punk I think he is. I like the talent, not the person. All the other stuff is court of public opinion.

Regarding your point about a daughter's boyfriend, that isn't relevant to conversation. I never stated it was ok. But I do 100% view one of those as worse than the other, and quite clearly so does the rest of society. That doesn't mean I like either scenario.

His wOBA was .365. His career wOBA is .357. It’s not even like last year was a career year for him. He’s arguably had two better seasons.

This is just who he’s always been.

he overperformed more last year than most years. he will be 31 and doesn’t hit for power. he’s likely to regress.
