The Boston Red Sox continue to pursue ways to shed salary, and multiple teams have targeted starter David Price, sources tell ESPN. He is owed $96 million over the next three years. Red Sox could either attach player with value or potentially pay down some of Price's remaining $.

I hate to say it, but this smells of an AA play here....

That smells of the exact opposite of AA if you've seen what he does in his time as Braves GM.

Failed offseason if we start the season with Riley or Camargo at 3b. Most of that bullpen money should of been thrown at Rendon imo. Not signing Martin would of been the difference between JD and Rendon.

Or dumping Melancon. Or getting the Giants to eat a good amount of his deal last year when we traded for him. I like having Martin in the pen. In his limited time he was stout. Melancon is the arm that worries me regarding regression. Especially at his price tag. But hopefully all these arms are the remedy to the countless Luke Jackson blown saves we had to live with last year until August.

When the lineup is all said and done, we can discuss the opportunity cost of the Braves' $46.5M BP spend in 2020.

At that time we will see how much everyone loves those moves, and we can go over it again after Smith's first 1-2 years are in the books.

I'm ok with Smith's deal, adding O'Day at 2.5, with Martin's 7, and MM's 14/19, and Greene's 6-7 is a LOT. Not to mention 18 for Hamels. If AA cant add at least 1 of the big names to hit cleanup, he has some explaining to do.

Lol he has zero explaining to do. He’s decided to build this team a certain way and so be it. Last year we were all on his nuts bitching and complaining and look what Donaldson did and look at our team. We won the division again with 97 wins. I think AA knows what he’s doing.

I think we need a big bat and all indications are he’s still adding one. He hasn’t said we’ll see or we hope to. He’s said we’ll add one more either at third or the outfield. Calm down and wait it out.

Greene and Melancon will both be gone after 2020 at least.

Yeah we cant go into the year with the current lineup, obviously expect we'll add 1 big bat, anyones guess as to who.

Our big bat is going to be either Donaldson or Ozuna. Which of the two is the board’s preference? Ozuna is 5 years younger than Donaldson but Donaldson plays much better defense at a more premium position. Also we have two studs waiting to fill out our outfield vs Riley sitting behind Donaldson.

What if we sign Ozuna and then trade Pache or Waters for another bat?

Houston has considered moving Correa per Rosenthal. No chance we can pay him but he'd be an interesting fit.

I say sign Ozuna and trade for Bryant we'd be the team to beat.....on paper.

Where are you going to come up with the money?

Ozuna will likely cost $16-$17 million or more AAV. Bryant's going to get more than $18 million in arbitration.

The reason we'd be interested in Ozuna is because we can't afford to stay in the Donaldson/Rendon bidding.

Donaldson is a much better fit organizationally and a better player. Ozuna looks like he is already regressing, Donaldson should be. I don't think either are a good idea if it takes a 4 year deal.
