Official Offseason Thread

you sure? this seems significant to me

FWIW, he's supposed to be in Orlando next week for that LPGA event. Signing this week would make a bit of sense if he's planning to swing through town for his physical/extra paperwork/etc. on the way down or back.

Here’s another nugget that lines up with what someone on twitter posted earlier today. Again, not sure if it’s fake or legit. But I suppose we’ll find out one way or the other in a few days.

FYI, this guy admitted he had no info.

I think it was a fair assumption that this person didn’t have any real inside info. It was worth noting bc it was intriguing and we’ve heard nothing but speculation around here. But nonetheless, moves from other clubs have lined up to indicate a JD move is imminent.

Daniel Hudson and the Nats agree on a two-year deal

Leaves them ~ $18 million below the luxury line in 2020 according to Roster Resource - https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/payroll/nationals.

Never want to jinx anything, but it's hard to feel like Donaldson's willing to take the types of deferments it's going to take to keep them below the line - especially if they're thinking about bringing Zimmerman or Adams back.

I could be wrong, but I thought deferments have no impact when it comes to luxury tax. They still take the avarage annual amount for calculating purposes of the luxury tax.

Right...but the only way you fit him in in their situation at $18 million per at this point is by giving him a 6 year deal if AA is going to $100 million or more - at that point, you're compromising money they likely intend to offer Soto.

You think JD would even consider taking the same $110M over 6 years at 18M/year vs $110M over 4?

Yeah... this makes no sense at all

Boras is Soto's agent, i doubt he'd sign an extension unless the money was absurd. He'd hit FA at 26.

Thames to Washington. Seems like Matt Adams' replacement.

I bet they trade for someone if they don't get Donaldson.

Could be wrong but i also dont see JD taking a deferred contract, i think he's gonna want money up front and over the next 4 years, not 5-15 or however the hell it is.

Saw the Cubs asking price on Bryant is absolutely stupid. They want a Gleyber Torres level package in return, absolutely asinine. Now i wouldnt blame AA if he has to overpay in money to keep JD.
