He CAN'T be given a QO - neither can Moustakas.

This has nothing to do with international signings - you lose picks in the June (Rule IV) draft for signing QO free-agents. No one wanted to surrender draft picks for signing Keuchel or Kimbrel last winter on top of paying them big money - that's why they were still out there in June - it had nothing to do with teams' international signing strategies.

He clearly means that our International signing penalties factor into our decisions for signing QO free agents. And he's absolutely right.

The list of Realistic FA targets for the Braves likely hinges on who gets a QO. Nothing they’ve shown suggests they will be giving up a draft pick for any FA they can likely afford.

Guys like Wheeler and Bumgarner check all the boxes of a guy likely to go the DK route, so I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see either of them join the Braves after the draft. It will be very interesting to see if they price themselves out of an opening day job.

Does anyone actually read the droning run on posts by the usual suspect?

Nope.

I dont think Wheeler will have much trouble of finding a good contract, even with the QO. Bumgarner TBD, but some teams will look at his track record.

• A team that neither exceeded the luxury tax in the preceding season nor receives revenue sharing will lose its second-highest selection in the following year's Draft as well as $500,000 from its international bonus pool. If it signs two such players, it will also forfeit its third-highest remaining pick. The 13 clubs that fall into this category during the 2019-20 offseason are the Angels, Astros, Blue Jays, Braves, Cardinals, Dodgers, Giants, Mariners, Mets, Nationals, Phillies, Rangers and White Sox.

Examples: A team with one pick in each round of the 2019 Rule 4 Draft would lose its second-round pick. A team with two first-round picks would lose its second-highest first round-pick.

The Draft-pick compensation is also based on the financial status of the free agent's former team.

If a free agent who rejected a qualifying offer signs a contract that is worth at least a guaranteed $50 million in total value, and his previous club is one of the teams that receives revenue sharing, said club will be given a compensatory pick immediately following Round 1 in the next year's Draft. If such a club loses a free agent for a contract worth less than a guaranteed $50 million in total value, the club will receive a compensatory pick after Competitive Balance Round B (which follows the second round)

Is the option deadline today?

If i was AA, i'd pickup Flo's, and decline Nick/Julio's.

I dont know if we'll sign a FA with a QO. Really need those draft picks with our international suspension.

QO deadline is today, my guess is Rendon/Cole/Wheeler/JD/Bumgarner/Ozuna.

Bowman- Source: The Braves will bring Tyler Flowers back with a 1-year, $4 million deal. Because Flowers' $6M option was declined, he received the $2M buyout. So, he's still getting $6M. It's just an accounting procedure that allows for just $4M to count toward the 2020 payroll.

Way i'm reading this, is he'll still get 6 mil but only 4 mil counts against the 20 payroll.

Wonder if we could trade Julio rather than decline his option, 1 year/12 mil for him is pretty friendly for teams who dont wanna go long in years to SP's.

I read it thinking AA saved 2 million. Which if correct, is another good move by AA.

My next move would be to decline Neck and offer him 1 million. If I’m doing my math correctly that would save 5 million.

IF Nick is platooned, his current salary is fine, i have no confidence that happens though.

I don’t think he saved any money. The Braves paid the $2M buyout and then signed him to a $4M deal that exactly matches the amount the option cost anyways.

What it did was make Flowers’ $6M salary only count as $4M towards the salary cap, but I have no idea why the Braves would care about that. Should we start rumors about this being a sign the Braves are about to boost payroll to levels where the salary cap starts to matter?

Something is a little odd about the Flowers transaction.

I definitely read it as he will be receiving the same amount of money as he would have had they exercised the option.

The move is being made for accounting purposes.

My question is what is the accounting purpose?

It would matter for the luxury tax. Is there anything else on the MLB level where it would matter?

If they are doing this to get around some kind of internal payroll cap, it seems a little silly.

I mean there is just no way at all they are going to be in the tax.
