Official Offseason Thread

Rosenthal kicking all sorts of stuff around this morning on Hot Stove - mentioned Boston potentially packaging Benintendi with Price to get money off the books. Quite sure he came up with it on his own - doesn't sound like something they'd leak this early other than to show that they're open to all sorts of ideas.

Don't see it happening, but would be interesting to see how much cash they'd have to kick in to get the type of return they'd hope to in that type of deal.

They’d have to kick in money no doubt. But it’d be something I’d consider if I were AA.

If we don't sign JD, I wonder if someone like Hunter Dozier might be available?

I wondered about what it would take to get Dozier and Soler a while back - but that was before AA signed anyone. Thought Soler would be perfect to hit behind Freddie before Markakis was re-signed, but Dozier would definitely fit. Not sure DMGM would overvalue Riley enough to take him back as a big part of a deal for Dozier alone though.

I'd rather trade Riley in a deal for Soler personally. AA could then sign Moose - putting Duvall in the Soler deal or cutting him loose. A Freeman/Soler/Moose/d'Arnaud heart of the order would be sweet. Markakis would still be able to get plenty of ABs filling in for Soler and Acuna occasionally and as your primary PH. It'd hurt to trade Riley for a rental, but if they couldn't re-sign Soler to a reasonable extension, Waters will be ready to takeover in LF next spring.

Whit Merrifield is a more likely candidate if we're trading with KC. Not sure what his defense is like at 3b, but he'll likely be deployed as a swiss army knife, rather than an everyday 3b. With his .350+ OBP the last couple of years, he would hopefully solve the on going issue of batting Acuna leadoff.

I'd trade for Whit, sign Moose and Hamels and call it an off-season.

Brock Holt is also worth looking at as an inexpensive 3b option. May be he and Camargo could make a decent platoon. He has hit RHP very well over his career.

Lol @ you thinking Snit will utilize WM as a swiss army knife when he has failed to show that he can properly utilize even Camargo or Culberson

Brew Crew just made a cute little trade getting Urias and a decent young starter from the Padres.

The Padres and Brewers have broken open a quiet trade market with an interesting swap of young big leaguers. Outfielder Trent Grisham and righty Zach Davies are heading to San Diego, with second baseman Luis Urias and southpaw Eric Lauer going to Milwaukee in exchange.

we are a week and a half away from the winter meetings, hopefully the hot stove heats up!

Os trying to dump money. What kind of small package of prospects for Bundy Villar and Mancini? Mancini having most value obviously but total dollars wouldn't hurt Braves and fills lots of voids.

Orioles are working hard to trade Dylan Bundy. Would getting him out of Camden do him wonders?

Bundy is due to earn $5.7M in 2020, is a fairly durable #4 with the "upside for more" narrative, and the O's already traded a similar-ish SP in Gausman to the Braves for a poo-poo platter of fungible prospects.

This is the exact type of trade, targeting a stupid team, I expect AA to be involved. The only downside now is that we've heard about it early, and that doesn't usually happen with AA deals.

I like Villar alright, but not sure I'd want to include the extra prospects it'd take to get him incuded - especially as a rental - would also have to deal with not knowing just how well he'd handle 3B defensively. If AA could get Bundy for the same type of prospects he gave up for Gausman, he might not be a bad pickup - don't think they'll make nearly as many bad trades as they used to with Elias running the show though. Would prefer to trade for Mancini/Bundy and sign Moose personally - like Soler, he'd force Snitker to only use Markakis when he should and he'd look great hitting between Freddie and Moose. AA could then consider using Riley/Waters/young arm to get the Ace he wants.
