Pulling the Guardians now. Guardians and Padres World series. It seems impossible that Philties have gotten this far with such a trash lineup. Literally only 3-4 "good" hitters and the rest are garbage.

Phillies have more than 3-4 good hitters. Harper, Realmuto, Schwarber, Castellanos, Hoskins, Segura, Bohm. Not saying it's the best lineup in baseball but it's far from trash.

Castellanos has been one of the worst hitters in baseball this year. Stott is awful. Bohm is propped up by an artificial BABIP. He’ll stink again next year. Marsh and Vierling aren’t good hitters.

I fully expect the Phillies to wallow in mediocrity again next year, unless they go crazy in free agency. But, they’re already past the luxury threshold. It’s what makes this Phillies run this year irritating. They’ve done nearly everything wrong. Terrible drafting, development, and a few of their signings. Yet, they’re getting rewarded with a flukey postseason run that was only possible because MLB decided they just had to have a 6th postseason team. And that’s going to be more common now. The 5th team in was often times even mediocre. Once you get six deep, you’re basically guaranteed to let in mediocre teams every year.

Just watch. Phillies will win it all and Johan Camargo will get a World Series cut two years in a row. Where Camargo goes, champagne flows!

Seriously, Phillies' 1-5 is pretty decent. Our 6-9 is better (probably much better). But having seen such luminaries as Al Weis for the 1969 Mets (Career OPS .553/WS OPS 1.290) and Blake Doyle for the 1978 Yankees (Career OPS .392/WS OPS .938) become World Series stars, I can attest that just about anything is possible in the post-season.

Really hoping the Phillies don't win anything. They currently have so few homegrown players contributing, and can't develop talent. They're basically a trash organization propped up by a top 5 payroll. The Padres are not much different in terms of payroll size but at least they developed a ton of talent in their farm and pushed their chips in to acquire talent in the majors.

I can go either way on the NL. Only reason I would want the Phillies is that it would give Camargo tiny bonuses two years in a row. Now that the Astros have cleaned up their act, I lean that way in the AL.

This. I guess the bright side is that this run could convince those dumbasses that they have some kind of sustainable model for success and keep them mediocre even longer.

That's what I'm hoping as well. Heck they shouldn't even be a playoff team and wouldn't have been under the old format.

Are the Phillies actually trying to convince us that they’ve been rebuilding since they got Harper until this year or was that just Verducci?

Either way, revisionist history can be fun.

Rebuilding? They literally went for it every season and just sucked.
