Official Playoff Thread

San Diego is a reasonably likable team and a far more tolerable fan base. They also slayed their Dodger demons, which we should be able to relate to.

Houston has proved they're a legit team, more than just stealing signs in that sense. Made the ALCS every year since 2017, a pretty likeable team. Dusty finally winning one would be good too. They've lost some legit players (Springer, Cole, Morton, Keuchel, Correa, among many others and keep winning 100+). I wouldnt be mad if Philly won either, prefer San Diego over anyone else. They just gotta try to steal one in Philly and get it back home. Philly has that special sauce the Braves had a year ago though, lot of stuff going their way.

Padres also have actually developed a lot of they own talent.

Other than Hoskins, Bohm, Nola, most of Philly's team is through trade/FA, correct. Padres are about the same as well, done a ton of trades.

Not true actually. Very little of their starting lineup is home grown, and all of their best pitchers (Musgrove, Darvish, Snell) are not either.

Tatis, Cronesworth, and a couple BP guys only real homegrown players. Both Philly and SD were built the same way. Braves and Dodgers are mostly homegrown.

Who cares. They have good players and have a chance to win a title with what they have. Is there some sort of medal for winning it all with home grown talent. Braves don’t even sniff the playoffs without traded players.

I'd be down with the Astros taking it all. Like you said, they cleaned house after the sign-stealing scandal (and it can be vigorously argued that the penalties should have been more severe), but they've done a good job replenishing their team. Their work in Latin America is really impressive and they appear to be one team that got the Cuban defector thing correct with Alvarez and Gurriel.

Little known fact: The Braves drafted Jeremy Pena in the 39th round of the 2015 draft as a high school player out of Classical HS in Providence, Rhode Island. He instead went to the University of Maine and was drafted in the 3rd round by the Astros in 2018. He is the son of former professional IF Geronimo Pena who put up 6.3 bWAR over 7 seasons, six of which were in St. Louis where he was a decent utility guy.

Alvarez they got from a trade with the Dodgers.

Thanks for the correction! Just looked it up and while Josh Fields (another former Braves' draft pick that didn't sign) did alright with the Dodgers, my guess is the Dodgers would like a do-over.

Tatis is truly homegrown because even though he was originally signed by the White Sox, he never played a game in their system as the White Sox traded him to the Padres for James Shields (who immediately fell off the table production-wise).

Cronenworth came over to the Padres from the Rays along with Tommy Pham in the Hunter Renfroe deal, which always struck me as odd. The Rays seldom miss on guys like Cronenworth. Other principal in the deal going to the Rays was Xavier Edwards, a former Padres' first-round pick, who is still young and a true SS. Hasn't hit much as a pro to this point.

I want the Padres to lose just so I don’t have to hear everyone exclaim how awesome the very mediocre Preller is.
