Official Playoff Thread

No way i'd pitch Odo before Elder. Either way, I hate this for Matzek but I'd just shut him down and let him ramp up next season with optimal rest.

That Alvarez kid is pretty good.

Does using a starter in a key situation like that ever work?

Nats used Corbin and i think Scherzer out of their pen in their 2019 playoff run. Dodgers used Scherzer to close out the Giants in Game 5 last year.

If it doesn't work it you get the added negatives of finger-pointing, knowing the coach is panicked and that he doesn't trust the closer. If the closer shoulder's the loss he shoulders the responsibility for it too. Seems overly risky, unless you don't really have "a closer".

I'll admit I didn't see a lot of those series. I guess I was thinking about the time the Padres (and they did go on and win the series) brought Kevin Brown out of the bullpen against the Braves in hopes of closing them out back in the 90s or early-00s and Michael Tucker took him deep and extended the series. I think that's the same series when Danny Bautista (somehow a Bobby favorite) lost a fly ball in the lights which helped propel the Padres past the Braves.

Did the Nationals and Dodgers use those guys in the middle of innings or to start an inning? I bow to your knowledge.
