Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Apparently, Jesse Franklin was released. I can only assume the Braves need the roster spot because they are making a trade without having to give anyone up.

Lopez has a contract for 3 years at $22M per season.

Castillo squarely in his decline years is owed $22M for the next 3 years with another $22M vesting option.

These are much different propositions than a 29 year old Cease for 1 year at $14M. Baldwin should not be in play for any of these names. Crochet was a maybe...these options are all hard no.

I think a pitcher like Lopez on a 3/$66 from ages 29-32 is a pretty great deal. Maybe I’m higher on him but he’s got a high floor with potential for dominant seasons

The Braves obviously, are not viewing Baldwin as a prospect, but as a part of the MLB team.

He may not start the season in Atlanta, but they are likely not going to wait long if they can help it.

My buddy, who's close with an MLB ump (I won't confirm who, but I've met him and it's legit), confirmed that the Braves were confident they had Scott signed and he had verbally committed until he suddenly left for LA. He mentioned the signing bonus was a key factor in that shift. He also said Atlanta is pursuing Cease harder than any other team, though a few others, including the Mets, are also in the mix. He said it would really shocking if they didn't make a trade or sign a good starter within the next two weeks.

I'm also not trolling. I know the guy and he's a legitimate MLB umpire.

Why would an umpire have this information lol. I’d believe the ice cream salesman in Section 222 over an umpire. I believe I’ve heard it all now.

Because umpires are ingrained in the environment, they build relationships with front office staff, players, and even agents. It’s a completely normal part of the job. For example, the umpires have a group chat where they discuss these things. The best way to put it is they have their own little network. You know what happens in your workplace, don't you? Welcome to interpersonal communication 101. Either way, it's fairly common that they all stay in touch in the off-season.

And I don't give a damn what y'all think, the guy gives me free tickets to games every year so it's a win-win for me. 🤣🤣
