Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

I much prefer Cease, but King screams Braves to me. Mainly due to him being an extension candidate and he's the classic reliever to starter that AA loves. Cease seems like a Met if he goes anywhere (they have a better system, a clear need and money to extend him), though I think only one is traded.

AA has had a boner for Cease for awhile so I think it's him or bust honestly. If Ling was easily attainable they would have traded him by now. I think both have the same price tag and an extension is what the problem is unfortunately.

Tomorrow is really a soft deadline for a Cease deal as Padres FanFest is tomorrow, and they would prefer not to have a star be there if they’re not going to play for them this season. - Stripers Report

Yup! AA has been trying for literal years. He may overpay to get him and extend him. And Cease may take an extension (it still has to be a good offer, of course) to be a Brave.

Have these Twitter rumors ever been right? I guess the one guy supposedly called Sale last year before his month-long Tanner Scott nonsense this year, but other than that?

I think the closest thing to a leak AA would permit is high level “we’re interested in Player X” or we have a deal done with Player Y type stuff. So if the amateur social media reporters have actual sources I think that’s about all they get and extrapolate it to the extreme. Of course sources outside the Braves may talk more.

The Padres Fan Fest thing seems like something Preller would leak to try to create a false sense of urgency as deadlines drive deals. I have no doubt the Braves have interest in Cease and until he’s traded elsewhere AA is going to keep checking in and seeing if there’s a fit. Beyond that, I think it’s speculation but gives us something to discuss in an otherwise boring offseason.

And I think the Padres probably prefer to keep King for the same reasons some might prefer the Braves get him over Cease. The Padres have ownership issues but they’re not rebuilding and they probably see better odds of resigning King than Cease.

A leak is exactly what it means. AA can't really control a leak because by definition it is unintended. Now do I believe them.. NO. The fact that the striper blog thing said the Friars don't want Dylan to go to fan fest is pure speculation and tells me they are just contextualizing their own thoughts for clicks.

There are alleged text screenshots from said guy that Profar signing was getting lined up two weeks before it was announced. He and others have said Scott was almost a done deal and he spurned the Braves for the Dodgers at the very last minute. But I also don't think any of these guys had the scoop on Hoffman when we supposedly were about to get him in November, so make of that what you will. I think there's enough smoke out there that the Braves and Padres have been talking extensively, but I'll believe it when I see the blue box or Passan/Rosenthal reports it.

Lol

I love soft deadlines.

That'd be my guess. Maybe Anderson, too or a pitching prospect a little lower in the pecking order. Wonder if there is some back and forth about AJSS or Waldrep.

I really like AJSS but neither him or Waldrep are different makers like Cease and I believe we'd have a good shot and extending Cease. I'd hope AA would make that deal if it is on the table and get this over with.
