Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Now don't get me wrong, I think standing pat is dumb as hell. Still though, I think they make playoffs even if they do

Acuna struggled the year he came back from his first knee injury and I expect the same this year unfortunately. Strider who knows but I don't think he'll be the same guy and I don't expect Sale to replicate last season either. That'll leave us seeing Elder, AJSS, and Anderson a lot this season and that's not a good thing. I like Kelenic but he didn't show any sign of why he'd get a 2nd year to prove he's the guy. I hope AA can do something and still expect he will but he hasn't made it easy for anybody to see his vision this offseason.

Only 12 teams make the playoffs.

And the 2 with the best record receive Wild Card round byes.

It's functionally not different at all from the 1990s if you are a juggernaut team.

Thinking of nfl today.

In the last 5 fill seasons, the dodgers won 100+ in 4 of them. The one they didn't, they won the WS. They didn't win it in any of the other 4. Baseball playoffs has much more luck involved that nfl and nba

Acuna's struggling was still 2.4 fWAR, so considering what we used in the OF last year that would seem like god level production

Perhaps AA will swing for the fences by getting degrom. Probably no chance in hell we would and no chance in hell he would stay healthy, but if we and he did, sale, strider, and degrom would absolutely put us on LAD level

I called it from the start - Jordan luplow type player come on down, and that's all we will get. If AA played poker, he's fold 2 aces if someone raised him.

I’m gonna guess that AA got used by their agencies to get better deals elsewhere.

AA’s frugalness is now his kryptonite and everyone knows it.

The Rangers are all in and have said as much.

Just dreaming on a move... any move. There's no way anyone would take that contract anyway

I'm still hoping for one of Flaherty/Profar/Santander and one of Yates/Estevez. I can see a decent-sized trade sprinkled in there too. I haven't and still don't think AA will remain silent, but he's willingly let this **** happen without making a move. It's time to step up.

I'm not so sure now that both knees have been redone. Scary stuff at his age but I hope they limit his stealing bases and he's not allowed to do any run downs. Just let them tag you out. We only have 1 reliable OF right now and that's Harris and he spent time on the DL last year.

Cothran now saying Scott had an offer from the Braves that he was willing to take until a few days ago and that the Braves’ inner circle was blindsided. Not saying that’s true, but if so why did we drag our feet on this?

I hope it's true. That way I know we willing to spend some money

He's only had two good seasons. I don't know that it was all that great of an idea for AA to reportedly tie up 80 million in a reliever with his relatively brief track record, mostly in low impact games on bad teams, regardless of how dominant he was last year... especially since we have additional needs and seem to have significant constraints, whether it's the luxury tax penalty or an internal cap.
