Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

The only way ducking under the tax this year is acceptable is if it allows the Braves to sign someone like Cease, Tucker or Bichette next year.

As others have stated, punting on a legit year of contention for any other reason is unforgivable. AA will fill these holes, guaranteed.

Seems like CYs mom is going to be the only thing with holes filled this offseason

Boob: The Cincinnati Reds are engaged in talks for free agent closer Carlos Estevez, who has saved 57 games the past two seasons.

I agree completely. I think the whole idea and even definition of reset is coming back the next year and going crazy. 2026 is the last season before the new CBA and things will look different after that. So I hope AA goes bat sheet crazy and defers a ton of money to after the new CBA. In 2026 that is. He should be major player for all the big FA.

So the Braves aren't even in contention for the better middle market relievers?

At the top of the market, Scott, Yates, and Minter have all gone to fierce league competitors. Hoffman to the Blue Jays.

Sewald, Leclerc, and Kittredge have all signed.

Some of the options remaining in the middle tier: Kyle Finnegan and two 40 year olds in Kenley Jansen and David Robertson.

This offseason is just turning into such a disaster.

We are banking on Daysabel not walking everyone, Perdomo or Shreve being a good enough third lefty, and Iglesias/Pierce/Bummer/Lee staying healthy and pitching their best. Good luck.

The offseason is only a failure if you were expecting the Braves to take advantage of MLB loopholes and sign a bunch of big names to deferred contracts. The offseason is fine if you can see the writing on the wall that this team really needed to drop under the tax and see how stars were going to rebound in '25.

If that's the case and AA is gonna actually spend next offseason then I can somewhat see it but when has AA spent big on a FA? So AA is gonna compete with the Dodgers, Yankees, and other teams for Tucker, Bichette, and Cease? Common sense will tell you from AA's track record that won't happen. He's not gonna be the highest bidder on anybody. So I have 0 faith in him getting under the tax so he can spend next year. But sacrificing this year for next is never smart and if he doesn't get another good SP and RP then this offseason has been a failure and there's no way around it. I've defended AA more than most but if that happens and we fall on our face this year bc of his reluctance then boot the guy out.

We can try and wordsmith it as we like, but it's been a failure because AA has failed to add a single impact player to the roster. Hell, he's actually lost talent. Yes, we have two studs coming back, but it's a failure because it has unequivocally been a failure to this point. Thankfully, there's still time and talent to be had.

Time to start thinking about new GM. AA is scared of his shadow. Cant have a guy that's terrified to take a chance

This past deadline and offseason have been awful. We needed OF help vs rhp at break, and AA got us a rh DH. He's on drugs or something

No way do I boot him. I think AA is doing a good job for the most part. I wish he would play the deferment game more and the opt out game more... it sort of limits him on competing.

I don't know what his deal has been. I don't know if ownership is holding him back or what but he hasn't done much at all to help the big club since the break. And it would have looked a lot worse if Ramon had played in Atlanta like he did everywhere else.
