Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

I would hope we manage things similarly to last year and use a 6-man rotation as much as possible to keep guys healthy and effective. We'll find out real quick with this brutal start to the schedule (7 games straight @SD + @LAD).

It'll be interesting to see how they manage the AAA shuttle. Daysbel has options, but he's a key contributor now. One approach is to use the final spot on the 13-man pitching staff to cycle between re-tread RPs . . . goodness knows we have enough of them (Kuhl, Covey, Diekman, etc.). When they need a spot-start just 1) DFA re-tread A, 2) swap in one of the several AAA starters with options to make a single start, 3.) swap in re-tread B.

I think it will be interesting to see how the team handles guys. I know they tried to skip starts here and there to keep guys healthy.. but It also helped put the team in a dog fight to just make the playoffs. I also think running the retreads out there constantly will only serve to deplete your pen. Now, I think the pen could be utilized better to help with this, but not sure Twit buys into it like I do. We have guys like Lee, Holmes/Ian (whoever is in the pen), Kuhl(I am betting he makes it) and prince albert who could go a few innings instead of being slotted for one inning like twit does it.

I'm hoping JJ heals quickly and does come back after the all star break bc we will no doubt be in the playoff race so a fresh arm of his caliber could be a real difference maker.

The retread strategy only works when the offense is at full strength and scoring 5 runs a game. Last year I think it really hurt.

Last year was miserable bc if we got down 2-0 or 3-0 we knew the game was pretty much over bc we weren't gonna score.

Ian/Holmes/Elder/Vines until May 15th.. then throw them out and roll Waldrep/AJSS/Braun/Hackenburg until June 30th.. then Sale/Strider/Lopez/Schwelly the rest of the way..

To pick a nit, Vines isn't even a non-roster invitee this spring so I doubt he's in anyone's plans for 2025. He ended the year in Mississippi, so he may end up being the opening day starter for the Columbus Clingstones.

Yeah. I can’t remember who was around/injured/not invited between Winans/vines/dodd and others.

The Padres are probably gonna hold out till some team has a big SP injury and they'll cash in for Cease and or King.
