Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

I would imagine both Cease and King will be traded before the season starts now. Pads are looking to reload with MLB ready pitching/position players and also reducing payroll.

My prediction: The Pads will relent on their asking price and we trade Holmes, Waldrep, Nacho, and a pitcher outside our top 20 for Cease and Suarez.

I think the Pads cave a little on their asking price as long as there isn't a big injury somewhere and a team gets desperate. Hopefully AA can get 1 of the 2 and it'll move everybody back a spot.

Agreed - I'm guessing Cease is gone soon, but King, Darvish, Cease, Pivetta, Waldron is whatever order is legitimately strong if not.

However, I think he ends up with the Mets. They reportedly have prospects the Padres really want.

Winans and Matzek are non-roster invites with the Yankees this spring. Curious to see how it works out for both of them.

I will always pull for Matzek.. even with the dark empire. I was sort of hoping the Braves would snag him and Soroka this off season as BP edge filler with a chance to rebound.

I didn't realize how brutal the Braves schedule was to start the year. Pads/LAD back to back on the road. A bit of a break with the Marlins, then Phillies at home, fly to Tampa and then an immediate flight to Toronto to play the following day. And we close out the month on a west coast trip (where we always struggle). Even as good of a team as we have, we would do well to be more than 2- 3 games over .500 on May 1.

In years past, our early season schedule had allowed us to only carry 4 SPs for most of the month of April. We always seemed to have every 5th day off. Well that isn't the case this year. It's trial by fire right out of the gate.

Luckily the schedule in the 2nd half seems much weaker, much like it was last year.

Meanwhile the Phillies play the Nationals and Rockies to start the season and get the Nationals again to end the month, along with playing the Cards and Marlins in between. The Phillies don't start playing a real schedule until late June. In may they get 5 straight series against teams projected to finish with a losing record. Who the **** is making these schedules the last 2 seasons? It's gotta be a Philly fan.

If they loved the Mets guys so much a deal would be done by now. The Pads may not be serious about selling either piece but I think they do trade 1 and it's probably gonna be Cease now and King at the deadline. Do the Mets have MLB ready pitching the trade? AJSS would be a big chip to trade them bc he's ready.

normally how the schedule plays out doesn't matter since it is a balanced schedule for every team.. but having a harder schedule to start sucks because the team won't be at full strength until June most likely.

The pivetta deal only pays him $1M this year specifically so they don’t have to trade cease or king. Or at least that’s what they will tell teams trying to acquire either.
