Olivera traded for Kemp

The Braves were playing better before Kemp arrived (compared to their overall record).

With the Braves Kemp has hit 206/282/353 - 62 WRC+. Defensively he's -2 DRS and -0.8 UZR. None of these are good numbers.

This is where I have trouble with defensive stats.

I've watched most of the games Kemp has played since joining the Braves - two in person. I can't recall any chances that he missed that any other LF would have made. It's possible I missed one or two somewhere, but that's it. He doesn't look graceful at all out there, and it's kind of a hold your breath, cross your fingers, hope he catches it thing on routine fly balls, but so far he seems to have gotten to every ball that even a great LF should have.

And UZR would agree with you. His range has been average. However where he lacks is having a poor throwing arm.

Which of Markakis or Kemp has the better arm? Or the worse one if you prefer to look at it that way?

Nick was worth -5.8 runs with the arm last year and -3.1 this year. Kemp was worth -4 runs last year and -1.1 this year so far. Both are less than ideal.

Just to keep track - that's 7-4 since he arrived whether you like him or his numbers.

Coincidence or no, Freeman's line since then is .289/.440/.711/1.162. Of course, protection doesn't exist.

:HeywardWut:

Freeman posted a .346/.426/.654 1.080 statline for the entire month of June, he's been awesome this year offensively no matter who is hitting around him.

You are seriously going full thethe lately with your random strawman arguments and SSS stat lines.

Do not come in here with logic. Posters here want Kemp to have an impact, so dammit, he will!

Much better to be a fan (definition - fanatic) than some half-in numbers junkies who see EVERY glass as half-full and don't want to look like they pull for their team win or lose.

Just sayin'.

(Obviously you're not the only one of those around here.)

All who think Kemp is the reason the Braves are winning type "Kemp".

It will be a quick test to see who the dumb posters are that I can safely add to my ignore list. It makes the board much more readable haha!

I typed K-E-M-P. Why are you still here???

We're not rooting for the team to fail. We just don't blindly believe everything the Johns do is help us succeed... The Kemp trade is truly a head scratcher

I'm rooting for the team to fail. Not because I ultimately don't want a winner but because I want a long term winner, a team with a foundation to go on an extended run of excellence. And, like it or not, baseball is set up where the team with the worst record gets the most advantages in getting the best available players at the most economical cost (obviously FA signings do not apply). To me, finishing third from last, or even eighth from last, is much worse than finishing dead last UNLESS you were in reality a good team who just happened to have a bad turn (short term injuries - not the Medlen, Minor, Venters type).

If I have an illness, I would much rather get a shot that will really, really hurt short term but cure the problem moving forward, as opposed to taking some pills over a period of time that may cure the problem, or may lead finally back to the shot anyway.

Fixed.

If I had a nickel for every time some of you continually accuse me of being a blind follower...

Reading is fundamental - they even made a commercial about it back in the day.

I'd just as soon watch baseball - you can watch your medical dramas on Thursday night.

Having been a fan and watched the Braves since the early 80s I've seen every ebb and flow possible with them. People that have watched them longer will have seen even more. When we have a decent team I'll be pulling for us as hard as anyone to win every game, but right now I'm more focused on performances of guys who will be here with us the long term since we are terrible. Honestly I'm not even paying attention to wins and losses this year.

You are trying to treat everything as black or white with nothing in between, which is weird and very extremist. I'm a pretty positive person about the future of the Braves right now, just not particularly for the next year or so. I'm all for being positive for the future, but don't try to piss on my back and tell me it's raining (aka saying Kemp is a good player right now when he's clearly not). It just makes you look a bit crazy. I think you are a pretty solid poster most the time, but then you have your moments and go all thethe lite for a while and it makes me shake my head a bit.

Then why not put me on ignore?

Unfortunately I don't mind the "sometimes fans" like thethe did - not much those of you "rational people" (that spend amazing amounts of time posting on message board sites where you'd expect to find rabid fans) don't curb my enthusiasm. I was just as nuts about the Braves in the dark days of the mid-70s as I am today, and there's not much any of you can do to curb that short of running me off - officially, not nudged as you accomplished with him.

well we ran off thethe...so you better watch it

Then why not put me on ignore?

Why would I want to put you on ignore? If we all had the same opinions and thought the same the world would be one boring place for sure. This is a place for discussion about a team we all love to root for (or at least I hope so anyway, with Niners I think that could be questionable at this juncture), but I hardly expect everyone to agree with me.

And like I said, I consider you a good poster the majority of the time. I'm not trying to dampen your enthusiasm about anything, but you'll go on streaks constantly make jabbing and gotcha type posts with SSS stat posts like you are proving a point, which tends to make you look a bit zany at times. Like you pumping up Kemp's stats until wupk showed you were wrong about his stats, then you flipped the script and tried to claim he was helping by pumping up Freeman's stats.

Nothing wrong with being a sunshine pumper, but you tend to stray into "if you aren't with us your against us!" territory at times, which is a bit of a narrow viewpoint. The fact that we are all posting here on a consistent basis makes us all rabid fans, there is just a huge spectrum. You have the FO followers and hardcore sunshine pumpers like yourself and KB21, middle of the road guys with a wait and see attitude like myself, and then people with a battered wife syndrome like Sturg33 who are going to be negative about everything until the FO proves themselves beyond a shadow of a doubt, and everyone in between.
