Padres fire black

We need to fire Fredi now and hire Bud Black, Black is night and day better on a bullpen than Fredi and seems like a pretty good manager in general too.

What would ever lead you to believe a he was good, and b not a bad replacement ?
In 9 years only twice has he won more than 80 games

those padres teams have always been devoid of talent. he was given a completely mismatched, poorly thrown together team this year as well.

I certainly haven't seen enough of him as a manager to make a judgement, but he's supposedly very well respected.

You are clueless. He won 90 games with the Padres a few years ago who had the worst offense in baseball and a pitching staff full of nobodies. They missed the playoffs by one game.

And listen to what the rest of the baseball world says about him. Players and managers alike sing his praises. It's also hard to manage a team for a decade and not be doing something right.

Remember, the Padres once fired Bruce Bochy too.

Well said! Bud Black is just taking the fall for the front office screwing up. The Matt Kemp trade and many moves they made this off-season have not worked out.

Well, GM can't go yet he made mandated splashes this offseason so ownership had to find a scapegoat. Exhibit A was long time manager that was given a roster of talent and isn't winning and then GM points to his prior record of sub .500 ball and says to ownership " well no wonder he can't win with great players"

Yeah, look at how we bent them over the table with their two trades with us. Their FO is garbage.

Yea, they got a ton of press but they really had a bad off-season. That Kemp trade was terrible in my view. I hated it for the Padres straight away. Plus I felt sorry for Padre fans, and even as a Brave fan I rather see the Padres win a trade vs the Dodgers with all their money than other way around. But the Dodgers won that trade big time. Just a bunch of bad moves creating a stir that gave some false hope about the playoffs.

The same front office that fired Black acquired Melvin Upton Jr.! What kind of credibility to they have?

They also got Black the best closer in the business sending Benoit to the 8th creating an uber end of game team.
They went out and got a top of the rotation pitcher --

Matt Kemp deal was lauded at the time. Y'all speak of x number of years ago Black won blah blah blah.
2 years ago Kemp lost the MVP to a guy who sat out the next season for taking juice. The Braves got "Scrubs" for BJ and Kimbrill , I mean, I read it here.

Now it is a lousy FO because ....

Y'all are a trip

I know 57Brave can't see it because he's worried about Fredi's job. But Bud Black IMO is one of the better managers in all of MLB. The Padres made a mistake firing him but they've made plenty of mistakes lately.

I just hope Bud Black is still available when we wise up and replace Fredi.

I think I've realized that you think we all share the same opinions and ideas here and you are just the only guy on the other side of the fence. Not the case.

Plenty of people thought they mortgaged a lot of talent on the now, and have taken on a lot of bloated salary. They gave us our second best hitter for nothing if we would pay him.

They took on BJ Upton, the worst position player in baseball and his giant contract. I mean.... you are a trip.

I think what 57 is saying (and on which I agree with him) is that the baseball world was all atwitter last off-season as the Padres assembled their team. There are still nearly 100 games left and the Padres aren't out of it by any means. They've got a fairly nice club in some respects and they could easily end up in the playoffs, but they are underperforming now and as the saying goes "You can't fire the whole team."

If that's the case then I was way off base. Like Bj Upton off.
