Always thought he was a good manager. Wouldn't be a bad replacement going into next year

What would ever lead you to believe a he was good, and b not a bad replacement ?
In 9 years only twice has he won more than 80 games

You are clueless. He won 90 games with the Padres a few years ago who had the worst offense in baseball and a pitching staff full of nobodies. They missed the playoffs by one game.
And listen to what the rest of the baseball world says about him. Players and managers alike sing his praises. It's also hard to manage a team for a decade and not be doing something right.
Remember, the Padres once fired Bruce Bochy too.
Well said! Bud Black is just taking the fall for the front office screwing up. The Matt Kemp trade and many moves they made this off-season have not worked out.
Yeah, look at how we bent them over the table with their two trades with us. Their FO is garbage.
The same front office that fired Black acquired Melvin Upton Jr.! What kind of credibility to they have?
They also got Black the best closer in the business sending Benoit to the 8th creating an uber end of game team.
They went out and got a top of the rotation pitcher --
Matt Kemp deal was lauded at the time. Y'all speak of x number of years ago Black won blah blah blah.
2 years ago Kemp lost the MVP to a guy who sat out the next season for taking juice. The Braves got "Scrubs" for BJ and Kimbrill , I mean, I read it here.
Now it is a lousy FO because ....
Y'all are a trip
I think what 57 is saying (and on which I agree with him) is that the baseball world was all atwitter last off-season as the Padres assembled their team. There are still nearly 100 games left and the Padres aren't out of it by any means. They've got a fairly nice club in some respects and they could easily end up in the playoffs, but they are underperforming now and as the saying goes "You can't fire the whole team."
