Managers in Baseball don't really matter much IMO. Maybe a couple of games in the standings. The GM on the other hand has a huge roll.
It just seems premature, any way you cut it. I can understand (to some degree) the knee-jerk reaction in Miami when they decided to dump Redmond -- but a manager like Black should have been afforded a longer leash, or, at least, a bit more gravitas. It's still extremely early, and it's not like the Padres are completely, or remotely, out of the race/contention.
I was a fan of many of the moves AJ Preller executed this offseason; the Kemp acquisition, Derek Norris, Shields, Myers, Middlebrooks, etc. The Justin Upton trade was a solid move, although it came at a significant cost to an already heavily weakened farm system. The Kimbrel trade was absurd all around, an absolute heist on behalf of the Braves FO.
It all was a bit reminiscent of Steve Philips' NYM spending spree in the early 00's (Alomar, Vaughn, Burnitz, Trachsel, etc.) Useful pieces, in theory, that never meshed ... for a multitude of reasons.

Well said! Bud Black is just taking the fall for the front office screwing up. The Matt Kemp trade and many moves they made this off-season have not worked out.
Fredi is obviously a Democrat because 57 really reaches to defend him at all costs.
Trades that have literally depleted their farm system....Padres are in a really bad spot right now folks...The GM needs to be canned too...I would have fired his @ss for the BJ trade alone...
In 9 years he has won more than 80 games twice.
Wonder what Chad Mcdonald has to say about Black.
I have read in the past that they were good friends and that they go way back. MacDonald was with the Indians when Black was finishing his playing career and working in the Indians front office and was a scout with the Angels while Black was the pitching coach.
This could work out nicely for the Braves then.
Did you even bother to look at some of those teams he's managed?
