Pete Rose

My personal feeling is that he should be allowed in the Hall of Fame, and reinstated on a limited basis - no involvement in any major league organizations, but has standing for HoF and for anniversaries, old-timers games, etc. For the grand majority of retired players, this is basically what they do.

Now being allowed in the HoF and getting in is another matter. The veterans committee would have to vote him in.

I always felt he should be in it.
Heard him on the radio talking a couple of months back. He sounds like a scum bag, I totally forget what he was saying. But it was really dumb. So I said **** that guy, he shouldn't be in the HOF.
But I do think he should be.

In short no. If you want to induct him in posthumously, that's one thing, but you have to stick to your guns. This is someone who was caught breaking the number 1 rule in baseball. It's like someone murdering several people and asking if they should be let out of jail.

Baseball and baseball fans lose as long as it doesn't find a way to included his on field accomplishments into the Hall without glossing over his wrongs. Give him a plaque but not any perks, like making a speech, and certainly don't feed into him being a hero. It doesn't seem that difficult to me but I don't know the consequences.

I have no problem with Rose being inducted, AFTER he dies. He should never be allowed to profit on the the honor while alive. Which is what it is all about for Rose at this point.

the counter to that is he's profiting moreso on his quest for reinstatement then just about any HOF has off their HOF status.

Yes. Yes.

The necessary point has been made. He is a Hall of Famer, but for his indiscretion (illness?). He's 73 years old. Let him in, and he certainly belongs in the Hall. 4256.

We have infinite patience with any other addiction. It's a shame what has happened to Rose. People like to talk about how he's an asshole/jerk/whatever. Well, I think most of us would be after 25+ years of this ****.

If players are being left out of the HOF for steroids then there is no way someone who bets on the game while playing/managing should be let in.

Thing is, if he were just simply betting too much in general, like at a casino, on basketball, whatever, this wouldn't be an issue. It's the fact that it was on baseball while he was playing baseball.
