I think the ONLY arguement for doing a deal now is if Sonny Gray is being dealt for best offer now. You can't wait until the offseason b/c he's gone.
If guys are up on an auction block in a no reserve auction you should bid. Maybe you get lucky and you get the 100K car for 75K. Happens on TV all the time

. You just can't get excited by the bidding and go over your budget.
Gray's timeline doesn't really fit us. I think he's going to sign with Brewers long term b/c he has such a close relationship with their coach. I just don't want to spend a bunch. But if Beane says he has to go and the Dodgers and Astros feel like they are too good to pay anything....you might be able to get him cheap. If the Mariners think they have any shot then we can get him cheap. If Lewis as sometimes top 50 lands Gray by himself then we're in the price range I'd consider.
