PLAYOFFS?!?!?

Basically, we dropped Lee/Gore and added Martin/Camargo.

I like these moves. Roster needs all the depth we can get. Despite his struggles Martin is someone you’d feel reasonably ok with going to. And we need to budget heavy bullpen usage games which also means needing all the bats we can get on pinch hitting and despite all his struggles, Camargo is someone that actually could come through.

It’s going to take a small miracle to beat the Dodgers, especially with Snit giving away PAs on offense so he can overextend the SP the next half inning, and being completely incapable of competently managing a BP game in game 4.

But it took a larger miracle for the Braves to win the division, and that worked out. So…enjoy the ride!

Camargo blows.

I’d go with 3 catchers and bring up Langeliers. Yeah, I said it.

This.

Gore is incredibly redundant while Pache's on the roster. Contreras and Langeliers are better hitters than Camargo (even when he's hitting from the right side), and he's also incredibly redundant with both Adrianza and Arcia on the roster. Don't have a preference between Lee and Martin even though Lee has been better in 2021 - I guess the Martin side would argue you'd rather carry the more experienced guy.

Seems like these moves actually provide LESS flexibility than carrying a third Catcher - as strange as it seems to say that.

Give me Contreras or Langeliers instead, TYVM.

You want langeliers 1st PA to be vs a dodger late inning reliever? Even though none are good options, Camargo is the only one that's actually had some MLB success. Think I'll trust AA on this

I just read it has to be Pache, since Pache was the one picked to replace him

I doubt it's because he replaced him in the NLDS. Each playoff roster is set for each series so any carryover doesn't matter. If anything he would need to replace him because he has to replace an OFer.

Players have to get their first AB at some point - a much less experienced Andruw Jones wasn't so bad in 1996.

My preference has to do with the additional flexibility and the fact that I have no interest in seeing Camargo on the team (ever again to be honest). Carrying a THIRD utility infielder that can occasionally get a hit against a LHP seems like a huge waste of a roster spot - particularly when you realize that Snitker would use both Adrianza and Arcia to pinch-hit before looking Johan's way to begin with. Snitker would likely prefer to use Contreras before Camargo as well, and if you carried Langeliers instead he could do so without having to worry about having "burned" his backup Catcher - Langeliers would still be on the bench.

Camargo is a pretty big waste of a roster spot - not someone you'd want to call on to hit unless you'd already used everyone else, and he offers you nothing defensively.

I'm pretty anti-Camargo, and don't consider him much a useful member of the organization at this point, outside of AAA fodder. But he fulfills a clear role on this particular NLCS team, which is lacking Soler and thus needs to start all of Duvall, Pederson, and Rosario: another RH off the bench if an LHP is brought in to face either of the latter two OFs. It's good to have both him and Arcia for those purposes, plus he can technically switch-hit, so he (like Adrianza) gives Snitker some options when subbing out pitchers—at the very least, it's better than letting the pitcher hit. And I think he's a better option at the dish than Adrianza.

Would it be nice to have some better bench options? Obviously. But I don't see Shea Langaliers being amongst those better options right now. He's a nice prospect, but he's no should-be-Hall-of-Famer Andruw Jones.

The only comparison I'm drawing between the two is their inexperience - Andruw Jones was no should-be-Hall-Of-Famer Andruw Jones in 1996 either.

Again, it's a simple preference - strictly personal preference - of either of Contreras or Langeliers' RH bats to Camargo's in a desperate pinch-hitting scenario. Johan hasn't exactly seen a ton more late-game PH ABs in a playoff series in his career than either of the other two, so it's not like there's any reason to expect that he'd be less nervous in a big situation than either of them (or Pache for that matter).

You're dead-right in wishing we had better options (and I'm with you) - I just think there's more of a reason to cross our fingers and hope one of the kids on their way up somehow gets lucky than there is Camargo. With the trend of younger players becoming more and more successful seemingly every day, I'd just as soon see if we lucked into another Andruw-like playoff miracle scenario since Camargo isn't a particularly better bet to provide one.

You misunderstand. I want Langeliers as an emergency option, that way Contreras can PH vs LHP.
