I might be wrong, but I think Brock Turner did a little bit more than make sexist or racially insensitive comments.

Turrible example. Judges and prosecutors are rarely held accountable for their misconduct. In this particular case I agree, **** this guy and the horse he rode in on. Yall know I am very much against mass incarceration but rapists like this need to do real time every time. The excuses given are bullcrap.

Not really. Cancel culture is more of a mob attempting to dispense vigilante justice. Something that has only been made possible by the advent of social media.
Here are examples:
Actor A makes comments that are insensitive to women. Actor A's show's ratings drop. Actor A's compensation and the show's continued survival are in turn affected by the drop in ratings. This is consequences. Actor A relies on people consuming his entertainment product and his statements turned people off from doing that.
Actor B makes the same comments. A group of people on Twitter start a hashtag about it which turns viral. People sharing the hashtag start calling for the studio to cancel the show and fire Actor B. The network, afraid of the bad publicity this relatively small but vocal group could cause, cancels the show and fires Actor B.
The first example is the natural consequences of Actor A's statement. The second example is cancel culture. It is when a group can use a combined voice on social media to gain a disproportionately large influence and then use that influence to exact all possible retribution on the target.
