Sources: #Braves manager Gonzalez entering final year of his contract. Signed extension last Feb. 19, but length of deal was not announced.

#Braves’ chances slim, but Gonzalez likely safe and perhaps even candidate for extension. Has strong backing of Cox and Schuerholz with ATL.

More on #Braves’ Gonzalez: Extension unlikely until team determines whether he fits with Hart in new leadership dynamic, per source.

I assume (read: hope vigorously) that Fredi is around to keep things on an even keel during a couple re-building years, after which we'll replace him. Difficult to get a great hire if you're hiring a new manager right before you re-build.

Fredi is the right man at the right time. Plus he reminds me of the girl that might not be the prettiest at the dance but is the one who is the most fun to dance with. I'm trying to remember her name. It might have been Jeannie Montgomery. I wonder how she is doing these days. She had scoliosis and wore a neck brace. But I still liked her.

Sounds like my kind of girl!

This is exactly what I was talking about. No way they start this Mukaki Rebuild without promising Fredi that he'll be a part of 2017. It's like putting two pairs of boots on your prized racing horse before the big race, but whatever. Get used to it. We'll be lucky to escape with only a twisted ankle or four.

And there is no way they ask Fredi to do that without also promising him 2017 (at the very least).

Seems like nothing new in Rosenthal's report. My recollection is that Bowman and / or DOB had reported that Braves never announced length of previous extension but it was believed to be through 2015. They really have no reason to make a decision on Fredi now, and I don't expect they will. I wouldn't put it at any better than 50 / 50 that he's coaching this team in 2016.

The slim hope we have is the Porter signing. He might be here as insurance. But 2017 is Fredi's to lose.

My guess and hope is that they just decided to keep him through his current contract out of respect to Cox and due to 2015 being a re-building year. Whatever the case, I don't see Fredi being manager of the team in 2017 when the Braves move to Cobb county.

Maybe Freddi will work better with a different type of ball club. Probably not but I have to be the optimistic homer in these parts or else this board will collapse into a never ending cauldron of negativity!

I'd argue it isn't negative for fans to want a good manager over a bad one. No more than it's negative for us to want someone good over BJ Upton, etc. Though I realize both ships have sailed for now.

I want a new manager as well. Just have to balance out the negativity!

Difficult to get a great hire if you're hiring a new manager right before you re-build.

This is a good point, although I do feel as though the 'available' MLB managerial pool is one of the most over-saturated groups in the entire game.
