Post-Season Thread

I didn’t watch what happened. But in all likelihood the friars would have been out of challenges. So baseball has to take these baby steps to eventually get to the ultimate goal instead of rolling it out immediately. Dickfred is such an idiot.

lol what does Manfred have to do with implementing an ABS system? These are things the players/owners/umps have to vote on

Oh so you think they voted on full implementation or challenge system. No. They were presented with the challenge system from that idiot. They passed it because it is better than nothing. Just like any other rule change Dickfred has his stamp on it.

It is better than nothing. The players weren't going to sign off on a full implementation. They barely signed off on this.

It was 3 of 4 from the players. It was rumored they were against both and just came around to the challenge system over the past month or so
3of 4 votes is 75%. Not really close.

The "ABS" that got passed was a reference to the Automated Ball-Strike system in Major League Baseball, which was approved by the Joint Competition Committee on September 23, 2025. Other forms of "ABS" include the Automotive ABS system for cars, which became federally mandated by the early 2000s, and the Advanced British Standard for education, which was planned but is facing criticism, so the request depends on context.

In Major League Baseball (MLB)

  • What it is:
The Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) system uses technology to call balls and strikes instead of umpires.
  • How it passed:
The Joint Competition Committee, which includes representatives from the players' association, voted 9-2 to approve the system

So by my count it looks like a lot of folks like the idea of this but mlb gave us some watered down Russian roulette version that makes the games slightly better. Ultimately it will lead to full roll out but the. League can’t just start with that. They have to gimmick this shit to death first.

From a Bob Nightengale column from USA Today a couple of weeks ago

"The surprise was that the players, who voiced their concern over ABS during the season, changed their mind. When each team took a vote, 23 of the 30 teams voted in favor of it, so they cast three of their four votes in favor to reflect their sentiments."

Full ABS will come eventually. But you aren't going to get the players to sign off on that imo without first doing the challenge system.

I get your point that they changed their mind; but when the vote is 75% in favor, barely is a poor
word choice, probably even horrendous.

I think context matters. Multiple reports say the players were largely against it earlier in the year. It seems they softened their stance as the season went on, for whatever reason.

Another huge miss by mlb... today's there's no good college games or pro football. Instead they take the day off and go head-to-head with college football tomorrow. They coulda cleaned up today in ratings

They are so bad with this stuff. It’s crazy.

They’re horrendous at marketing pretty much across the board. Not only their playoff scheduling bad, their beginning of the season scheduling is bad.

So much for a long delay killing the offense

In the end you'll realize that every narrative that people come up with to explain why a team does or doesn't do well in the playoffs is just BS. Nothing is certain 100% of the time other than anything can happen in a short series.

While I think there was some truth to it, I still think it's on the team in the delay. I heard at least one or the teams on delay has been playing split scrimmage to see live pitching. I would guess teams are just preparing better now.
