Not white privilege actually. Its first offender status. This is pretty common for people without criminal records. The justice system is more lenient on first offenders. It's repeat offenders that get the book thrown at them.

For some crimes..... mandatory minimums make sure of that. Brought to us by Joe Biden. Many of these insurectionists will get less time than some people get for smoking a joint in their own home in some places in America. My home state has a mandatory minimum of 2 years for possession of 2.5 pounds of marijuana for first offense.

The drug laws in this country are broken and they're clearly not working. There's a big difference between someone cooking millions of dollars of meth and someone with a joint in their pocket.

The penalties for that single joint might not be severe but it often does lead people down the wrong path that ends with far more serious crimes. A drug conviction does make a person a second class citizen. I do however support Meth being illegal. That is some real dangerous ****.

Agreed on all points. The marijuana conviction limits job prospects and so limits opportunities.

Meth is lethal. People who make it need the book thrown at them. Addicts need treatment instead of prison.

As unsavory as it might seem to some, I think legalizing marijuana and at the very least decriminalizing if not legalizing and regulating other harder drugs as well is the path forward. Then set up clinics and focus on rehabilitation for addicts instead of fighting the war on drugs. Having the states regulate certain drugs will also make the process safer for addicts while also helping to prevent drug dealers from creating new addicts out of curious buyers.
