Nikole Hannah Jones has not written a single line for the newspaper where she is employed as a reporter in over two years. She also lacks a terminal degree in any field, has no prior teaching experience in higher ed, and has no scholarly publications. To cap that off, she has been credibly accused of severe acts of journalistic misconduct, including ghost-editing the web copy of her published articles in an effort to game the Pulitzer Prize review process.
Those facts combined render her fundamentally unqualified to hold a faculty position of any type, let alone one that is hired at the full professor level with tenure.
And now she’s outright grifting off of the taxpayers of North Carolina by securing a payout settlement from UNC to withdraw her lawsuit against the university for receiving all of those things and then declining the offer because the university’s board of trustees briefly pushed back against it.

If you're deep enough in the echo chamber to be listening to Occupy Democrats then you have zero desire to know what the truth is anyway, you're just hoping for affirmation of your mental illness. Seems to be a common theme among many social progressives.

My wife is an alum of UNC. The day after 9/11 one of her professors lectured the class on how the attacks were justified. An art prof had the class meet him at an abandoned building where he broke in and told them to find materials to make art with. The best piece would win a prize. The winner was a student who found a double headed dildo and a piece of chain and used them to make nunchukas. It was widely known that the lesbian teaching Women's Studies was sleeping with multiple students. The AfAm scandal was common knowledge. I remember a football player interrupting an argument some elementary school kids were having about whether their favorite music was rap or hip hop. He informed that rap is the music and hip hop the culture, he had just learned the difference in one of his classes. This was obviously all 20+ years ago so I can't imagine how degenerate it is there now.
That's the tripe that taxpayers and students are paying for at one of the elite "public Ivy" schools in the country. Academia, particularly the Humanities, needs to be purged.

I will be moving to Academia, albeit in flyover country and at a school of business administration, full-time this fall. I will try to poke around to see how things are in the Humanities. I confess to a certain amount of curiosity about this.
I must say preparing those lecture notes is a baitch.

The dark side of the crowd funding movement is that anyone who is fairly prominent and without integrity can find some fringe group to run a grift on. Those people are so desperate for recognition that they're easy marks. It reminds me of the right wing love affair with Roseanne Barr a few years ago. "Someone in Hollywood is on our side??? We love her, never mind that she's uncouth and lacks morals."
I can't imagine a much easier way to make a living than to tweet sympathetically to a wacky cause using lots of relevant hashtags until you have a couple million followers, then start your own foundation. Tue only thing standing in any moderately intelligent person's way is character.
