Purdy started the game 2 for 2 withotu throwing the ball downfield. Which he would have been asked to do as the game continued. He also fumbled the ball on his 3rd drop back.

Purdy had dudes in his face on every dropback They were running quick passes to try and stop from getting to Purdy when he finally had to do a proper dropback he was strip sacked. On his completion to kittle the only reason he wasn't hit/sacked on that play was a terrible non-holding call. Eagles were dominating.

Niners barely could handle the Cowboys who the eagles almost beat with Gardner Minshew as their QB.

Yes - Lets pick apart each play and identify non-calls.

You were flat out wrong. Not only did the niners defense come to play early on - the niners were able to move the ball when Purdy played the first drive.

Niners would have beaten Eagles just fine with Purdy and will do so this year if the Eagles even make it.

You are so FOS it's not even funny. The Eagles easily had the better roster, top to bottom. Brock Purdy wasn't winning ****. And he won't win **** this year either as a glorified game manager.

I won't discount the chance the niners have to win it, any given sunday, injuries, etc.

But the only question the Eagles had was Hurts's health and he proved vs. the Giants he was fine. And then proceeded to destroy the Niners. Niners defense was fine and if Purdy wasn't hurt they would have lost something more like 24-17 instead of 31-7

Don't worry - This will be bookmarked.

"Destroyed" the niners meaning a turnover on downs and then 3 straight 3 and outs (1 was a 4 play drive). Then the niners couldn't do **** because of a 4th string QB so it was deflating for whole team.

The Niners will always beat the Eagles if we only count the legal points. I have yet to see an audit showing the Eagles got more points than the Niners.

I agree, looks pretty good. Hopefully just good enough to keep the Falcons from getting high enough in the draft to get a real QB.

This is exactly what is going to happen. The Falcons are set up perfectly to be a team that sneaks into the playoffs with no real chance at going deep while at the same time winning enough games to keep them perpetually in the middle of the draft, missing out on top QBs.

Unless they acquire an established QB, I don't know how they reach the next level.

If I can play devils advocate on the issue. Patrick Mahomes was the 12th pick and many franchise QBs have been drafted in the middle of the first round. Also their record on non Cornerback first round defensive picks is horrendous. I cant fault them for not drafting another failed pass rusher with the pick though.

Well lots of good QBs can be found all over the draft. YOu just have a higher probability the higher your pick as QB bust rate is astronomical.

Looking at NFL starters you have by draft pick

Cardinals - Kyler - 1 (team is a hot mess, I'm not counting the loser that's starting for them now)
Falcons - Ridder - 74
Ravens - Lamar - 32 (Legit star)
Bills - ALlen - 7 (Star)
Panthers - Young - 1 (who knows)
Bears - Fields - 11 (who knows, probable bust though)
Bengals - Burrow - 1 (Legit Star)
Browsn - Deshaun - 12 (could be a star, but you know)
Cowboys - Dak - 135 (Strong QB, not quite star but like right there)
Broncos - Russ - 75 (great QB)
Lions - Goff - 1 (WHo knows)
Packers - Love - 26 (who knows)
TExans - Stroud - 2 (Kid)
Colts - Richardson - 4 (kid)
Jags - Lawrence - 1 (probable star)
Chiefs - Mahomes - 10 (best in the game right now)
Raiders - Jimmy G - 62 (Good QB when healthy)
Chargers - Herbert - 6 (could be good)
Rams - Stafford - 1 (had a really great career)
Dolphins - Tua - 5 (could be great if he can stay healthy)
VIkings - Cousins - 102 (strong NFL career)
Pats - Mac - 15 (was a stretch pick and looks like a bust)
Saints - Carr - 36 (solid NFL QB)
Giants - Jones - 6 (looks like at best a decent QB)
Jets - Rodgers (I know) - 24 (Hall of Famer)
Eagles - Hurts - 53 (looks legit, I think he could be another Russell WIlson type)
Steelers - Pickett - 20 (shouldn't have been picked that high, could be servicable)
Niners - Purdy - 262 (Who knows, Shanahan is great at maxiimizing his QBs, if Purdy is a great fit he'll be strong)
Seahawks - Geno - 39 (not great, but had a decent career0
Bucs - Baker - 1 (Bust)
Titans - Tannehill - 8 (solid NFL career)
Commanders - Howell - 144 (who knows)

You can find diamonds in the rough for sure. Next year is looking like a good NFL draft for QBs, we could get one of those value 3rd or 4th guys to fall down.

QBs are mostly crap shoot if you aren't drafting a generational talent at No. 1 like TLaw, Luck, or Burrow. Even then, you still need to fill out your roster with talent around them to be successful. It's honestly a testament to how good Luck was that he was so successful with mediocre TY Hilton and the ghost of Reggie Wayne as his only consistent offensive weapons for most of his career.

And as Geno Smith and Jared Goff are currently showing, some QBs just have to be in the right system to succeed. Like Justin Fields for example. I don't know if he'll turn to the corner or not, but playing for the Bears isn't doing him any favors.

Or you have a scenario where the niners give up the house for the #3 overall pick - He is a bust. Then they have effectively a throwaway pick with Purdy and he looks like he could be good.

There is always going to be something you can't guage by physical metrics on a QB that makes them successful.

Parcells always used to say he wanted a 3 year college starter that played in big games in front of big crowds. Thats what he saw in Romo and might be what we see in Purdy.

Parcells didn't really have an amazing record drafting QBs. with the Jets he drafted someone who I forget late in the draft and Pennington, with the Dolphins he took Henne and Pat White. His 2 wins were Bledsoe (number 1 pick) and Romo (undrafted) Romo also doesn't meet that standard, as he played on Eastern Illinois who didn't play big games in front of big crowds. Romo was a flyer who paid off.

Let's picka rando QB to meet all 4 Parcells criteria which are

1. Are they a college senior?
2. Did they graduate College?
3. Did they start 3 years or more?
4. Did they start 30 games or more?
5. Did they win 23 games or mor
6. Did they throw 2 or more touchdown passes for each interception?
7. Is their completion percentage above 60%?

Let me just pick someone random.

1. Are they a college senior? Yes
2. Did they graduate College? Yes
3. Did they start 3 years or more? Yes
4. Did they start 30 games or more? Yes he started about 41 games
5. Did they win 23 games or more? Yes, he won 48 games
6. Did they throw 2 or more touchdown passes for each interception? Yes he threw 5.5 TDs per interception
7. Is their completion percentage above 60%? Yes it was 66.4%

WHo's this sure fire Superb Owl QB? It's Tim Tebow. COnversely I can play the opposite.

1. Are they a college senior? No entered the draft after his junior year
2. Did they graduate College? No
3. Did they start 3 years or more? No
4. Did they start 30 games or more? Maybe? Games played is at 31 but were they all starts?
5. Did they win 23 games or more? Nope seems like he won 12
6. Did they throw 2 or more touchdown passes for each interception? Yes, 3.20 to 1
7. Is their completion percentage above 60%? Yes 63.5

One more

1. Are they a college senior? No entered the draft after his junior year
2. Did they graduate College? No
3. Did they start 3 years or more? No
4. Did they start 30 games or more? No seems like 25
5. Did they win 23 games or more? Nope 18
6. Did they throw 2 or more touchdown passes for each interception? Yes, 3.30 to 1
7. Is their completion percentage above 60%? Yes 63.8

Who are these surely not SB quality QBs? Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers. Brady also fails that test (only started 2 years at Michigan, sub 2 to 1 TD to INT)

I could keep banging away. Sure lots of guys fit this mold who are good (Luck, Manning, etc.) but generally speaking, it's not a good metric. There's legit something weird about what makes a good NFL QB. There's some physical but most of it seems to fall between the ears.

I agree there is something else to it. After being duped by a small conference QB I’d rather focus on guys with big time experience against big league programs in big time gsmes.

There is something to just how a guy looks the minute you put him in and that’s what purdy has shown. Apparently Trent Williams took notice in training camp of last year and saw something special. For some reason people are assuming purdy is dink and dunk. Go watch the tape. This guy is throwing in the 10-20 yard range consistently with great timing and accuracy. Also has tremendous feel in the pocket and has enough athleticism to get a big first down with his legs when the play breaks down. It’s very impressive.
