REAL FOOTBALL Thread

I think Smith leans too much on the run and doesn't create enough explosive plays. I think we'll struggle to keep up with higher powered offenses.

With Robinson, Pitts, and London there's not much of an excuse for not being more creative to get explosive plays.

Leaning on the run is absolutely gassing the opposing D in the latter parts of the game. Smith's play calling has been great. Just because it doesn't fit the "norm" right now doesn't make it bad

Ugh. I drafted Tua way before Fields went. I’d start Goff before Fields.

And yeah fields is DoA. Best thing that happened to uga was his transfer

My league was weird. Tua was the 16th QB drafted. Behind Carr, Purdy, Cousins, Prescott, and Daniel Jones. Picked him up in round 9. After I got my filled my starting spots I was like "Yoink, I'll take him please." I guess people were worried about the concussions, but even after he came he was still a beast last year. I was happy to take him as QB2.

Also looking back through some of the highlights etc. Man Burrow is sucking this year.

I get the reality that Lamar is a beast. I won't hold the loss against Burrow. But Burrow is legit terrible. He has under 300 net yards after 2 games. Looking back at his past, his next worst 2 stretch games were in blowouts, where he netted 320, but only had took 62 takes. where this year its' been 77.

Week 1 was a washout in Cleveland. Neither team was especially good throwing the ball in the rain. Don't think you can really hold that against him. He was pretty medicore vs the Ravens thougth. Not terrible, but not great either.

I said before the season started though that the Bengals really needed to trade for Jonathan Taylor. Their running game is trash. Mixon has never been a great running back, averaging less than 4 ypc over the last 4 seasons and only 4.1 ypc over his entire career. They need a better rushing game to take the heat off Burrow behind a mediocre OL. You give Burrow a great back to pair with those WRs and they are unstoppable.

Falcons I think are very clearly a good QB away from being a very good team. I think you are underselling the Saints. Easily a top 10 defense imo. How high in that top 10 remains to be seen but its going to easily be a top 10 defense. Derek Carr was kind of disappointing in his first game but its a brand new offense with fairly ****ty play from RB with Kamara being out. I dont think we can accurately gage how good the Saints offense is going to be until we see it with Kamara and we know what they will get from Michael Thomas. MT looks healthy for the first time in a long time but who knows how much the injuries and time off will effect him. Looked solid in his first game but not a dominating performance. If MT is as good as he was pre-injury him and Olave are in the conversation for best WR duo in the game. And I dont know what team would have a better 3 playmakers than Olave/MT/Kamara. From what I understand about Carr he is best at the short passing game where MT and Kamara are at their best. Time will tell but I think theres potential for an elite offense with a high chance to be above average.

Falcons have possibly the easiest remaining schedule in the league. The best team they face is probably the Vikings? Maybe Jaguars? They have to face the Saints and Bucs twice, who are also decent, but have mediocre QBs. The best QBs left on their schedule is Goff, TLaw and Cousins. If they stay healthy, the Falcons could win 10 games this year without even breaking a sweat.

Then I question the sanity of the front office in drafting Pitts and London with top 10 picks. You don't need to spend consecutive top 10 picks on pass catchers if you're going to run the ball like Smith does. You could argue it's 3 consecutive picks considering Robinson's proficiency catching the ball.

The front office has been drafting the building blocks for a high octane offense but the head coach seems determined to have a grinding offense instead. There's a disconnect somewhere.

Pitts was always a terrible top 10 pick. You never draft a TE in the first 20 picks. They generally take longer to develop and tend to be considerably less valuable than stud WRs. Atl should have taken Chase.

Yup... not a big fan of the Pitts pick at this point. London I get because he's the big bodied possession receiver who blocks well. That type of WR is very valuable in this type of offense and has been a trademark of Arthur Smith offenses. He was very good yesterday and I expect him to be very good going forward.

Pitts was drafted when we had Ryan and were tryign to give Ryan a winning team and were deluded that Julio was gonna stick around.

I know it won't happen because of his contract, but I wish the Falcons would bring Ryan back to kind of tutor Ridder and be there if Ridder starts really tanking to maybe still show he has it and Indy just sucked.

I feel like the Falcons drafted Pitts not because they wanted him, but because they were afraid he would become a superstar and they'd be blamed for passing on him. He makes no sense for Atlanta.

As for London, you can get big bodied receivers who block later in the draft. You want an elite, game breaking WR if you spend a top 10 pick on one. London is a chain moving possession receiver. He'll run good routes and catch anything but he's also slow. He was more of a second half of the first round WR. Super high floor but not an elite ceiling.

There just doesn't seem to be anything resembling a plan in Atlanta. They just grab whatever piece is shiny but none of it works. They have the receivers and RBs for a high octane offense but have no QB. They give Smith toys and he just runs the ball.

The Falcons are so poorly run.

Lol… k… sure man.

This is one of the worst plays I've seen. He had 5 seconds in the pocket and wasn't even at a risk of getting sacked at that point (play was obviously blown up) and he just ran forward into a pushed pocket ignoring an open receiver.
