Falcons are tied for last in the league in sacks with just 5. They had an embarrassingly low 21 sacks last season and are currently pacing 17 sacks this season. The Falcons last consistently reliable pass rusher was John Abraham whose last season in Atlanta was 2012.

Ebiketie aint looking like an answer either.

Yeah, except that I know Atlanta would have some how screwed up his development I wish we drafted Micah instead of Pitts.

Yeah, drafting a a TE top 5 is bad enough, even one as talented as Pitts. Drafting one when you're missing cornerstone pieces like an edge rusher is a fireable mistake.

Yeah that is what's so bad. There were so many verifiable studs in that draft. Basically the entire top 10.

Even if Pitts was the real deal. He should have been the last of the studs taken, not the first

I understand the reason for it. But it was horrible reason and I think it is a fireable offense. Especially when they could have nuked that season and traded Julio and Ryan and gotten out of cap hell faster.

Unfortunately we would have had a horrible draft class in 2022, but maybe we could have sucked for 2 years and gotten say Chase, Hutch or Thibodeaux and then drafted Strout this year. Would be in a much better position.

No TE is worth a Top 10 pick. In the last 30 years, there have plenty of TEs picked in the Top 20. Only 1 of them was truly elite, and that was the GOAT Tony G. Maybe you could argue Vernon Davis, but he was never really elite aside from maybe 1 or 2 seasons. The rest of the time, we was more just merely good/above average. Shockey was really good early in his career, but production really fell off a cliff around his 27th Bday.

In short, never draft a TE in the Top 20 unless it a super weak draft class at the 4 most valuable draft positions (QB, Edge, OL, and WR), the TE is also a legit top end talent, and you can't trade back to get more picks. A good example would be the 2022 draft. There was only about 12 or so players graded as having 1st round talent, with none of them QBs. A freak athlete TE would make sense in that scenario.

I largely agree. If a team is picking that high they generally have more pressing needs than TE. The only TE that comes to mind who would be worth a top 10 pick is Gronkowski but even then it would have to be a team ready to compete now before having to pay him a ****load of money.

If you're going to draft a TE in the top 10, you don't just need him to be a unicorn, you need to have a plan to make him a huge part of your offense. You don't just draft the guy and then use him as a TE. You have to scheme around him. The Falcons use of Pitts makes drafting him all the worse.

I don’t mind the pick, but agree 100% with this critique.

I think Pitts is going to have a really nice career after he leaves Atlanta. We just are not capable of taking advantage of his skill set

He's running as many routes as any TE in football (or any TE) I believe.

The number of routes you run doesn't tell you much. You could have a TE run a route on every play and still not be a big part of the offense if all his routes are decoy routes or if he's the 4th read. If you draft Pitts in the top 10, he needs to be the QB's primary read on a bunch of routes. Pitts isn't.

Pitts is underutilized. Arthur Smith runs a run first offense and the QB play since they drafted Pitts has been terrible. The Falcons were never going to be able to use him like you'd have to in order to justify a TE at 4.

Idk about “very rare” but he’s a good player

Rumors that Jefferson may not come back at all this year have my fantasy team in limbo !

Why trade for a piece like that when you aren’t securely in the top 10 teams in league. Before making any moves like this you better be sure your QB can lead the team to a title.

Out of QBs they don’t flat out suck Lamar might be the worst red zone QB in the league. That’s why his stats always tell a different picture than reality.
