REAL FOOTBALL Thread

You say that as a fact and the dude has suited up for exactly 0 games. I liked Penix in college, but I wouldn't be thinking he gonna do anything as a rookie.

I mean, I love what i've seen from Jayden Daniels and he looked much better than Penix, but Im not expecting him to play all that well as a rookie.

Yeah the point is… most teams are in trouble if their backup is in. At least Penix is equipped to potentially be average or above average if needed. All reports are that Kirk looks great with zero limitations though… not too worried.

I still think we will pick up one more WR… Tim Patrick or a trade for Metchie would be my preference. There’s talk Houston may trade Metchie. I think Patrick would be a great 3rd WR pick up.

Metchie would be interesting. Texans WR room is big so trading from a depth would make more sense than cutting someone like Hutchinson.

The Niners are absolutely stacked all around. They lucked into Purdy but with any decent veteran QB, they would be fine.

I get the perception of Purdy. It just isn’t true and he will continue to prove this out over the years. But Purdy has not just been “good” so far. Hes been statistically a top 5 QB so I’m assuming the narrative will break soon.

Just look at the pressure stats and what spags said about him after the Super Bowl. He will need to do it not only this year but after his contract comes into play. But look at Mahomes. He had a loaded roster early in his career and now not as much. His numbers decreased but you do hear any talk that he isn’t the consensus best QB. His Super Bowl numbers over his career are not that impressive.

Since when have the chiefs been able to hold and have false starts not called all the time? This is as bad as when the Seahawks would hold in the secondary all game.

Purdy will be determined when he isn't playing with 4 potential all-pros on his offense. When he has to make plays. Not just not screw them up

Also you think what Mahomes had was comparable? He had Kelce, Hill, and Hunt. Hunt was a decent RB but not even remotely close to C-Mac, and while I think it's safe to say Kelce is a bit better of a receiving tight end than Kittle, Hill is much more dangerous than Deebo, Aiyuk is a million miles ahead of Sammy Watkins, and the San Francisco defense has been better than the chiefs maybe ever has been.

Chiefs had a far superior offensive line.

I don't know about early Mahomes career about that, their line in his first full season was Fisher, Erving, Morse, Wylie, Schwartz. Fisher was easily the best of that group, and he's not considered great. You're vastly overrating their OL thinking of receny bias where Thuney and Humpfrey have elevated the line.

You can look at PFF ranks if you want. They were never below 15th and that was due to injuries.

Niners offensive line outside of Williams (who is all time great) is just awful. Purdy is frequently under pressure and it’s not because he is loud in the pocket. He has great awareness and escapability. He frequently faked out free rushers and made big plays.

Last year was Mahomes worst yr, and it wasn't too far off from Purdy's, which you thought was MVP worthy.

Mahomes hasn't had stacked offensive weapons since 2021. Even then it was only Kelce and Hill. Granted those are 2 elite weapons, but it's nowhere close to Aiyuk, Samuel, Kittle, and McCaffrey. Mahomes won the MVP in 2022 after Hill left and his top WR option was a mediocre JuJu

I was talking about Mahomes early in his career and agree that PUrdy has better weapons around him now.

Purdy was far better than Mahomes statistically last year. In 150 less attempts he had more yards/TD's and far exceeded him in passer rating and QBR. All while recovering from surgery to his arm for hte first half ot he year.

The OL was pretty trash prior to 2021. Do you not recall Mahomes getting abused by Tampa in the SB?

This just isn't real (not the SB part).

Chiefs consistently had a top 10 line when they didn't have massive injuries.

Purdy has had bad offensive lines outside of WIlliams. Just look at how often he is pressured.

And he has the best release valve in the NFL in McCaffery. All the pressure is great but teams don't dial up the pressure packages on him because the fear of CMac or Deebo smoking them.

I have not once debated that Purdy has great weapons.

My argument was that Mahomes earlier in his career had a loaded roster. As he got paid his production tailed off but everyone still calls him the best QB in the league and rightfully so.

Purdy is putting up very similar (not as good) rate stats that Mahomes did early in his career.

This is not true. Mahomes didn't have amazing weapons early in his career and he was a QB Brock never could be. Mahomes's MVP season is one of the best seasons of any QB of all time. Anyone's Y/A could be great if you throw a 5 yard screen to Deebo who breaks 3 tackles and gets 20. At least with Mahomes and Tyreek he had to hit his target at range, something not every QB can do.

And rate stats are good, but VOlume is also important. Purdy won't be tested until he loses his weapons. Because they run so many plays that take the heat off him.

And you know what, that's fine. It's good to set your QB up ofr success. I'm not arguing against that, but by god trying to compare Purdy to Mahomes in any way is a special kind of stupid.

I'm not trying to say Brock is Mahomes. My argument is that Mahomes had much better weapons early in his career that resulted in absurd stats. Purdy HAS AMAZING statistical figures. Its not his fault that Shanny loves to run the ball as Reid was always pass heavy.

Your example of the screens going for big plays is also absurd becasue Purdys air yard stats were incredible as well.

There is no statistical argument to push against Purdy. Its all about waiting to see what happens when he takes a significant portion of the cap.

Matt Ryan won the MVP and threw nearly 5000 yards and 40 TDs in Shanahan's offense. If not for Brees throwing 140 times more than Ryan he would have lead the league in yards easily (he had 300 less yards than Brees)

Purdy as I've said for a long time, his determinatyion of if he's a great QB instead of a QB in the perfect system for him will be if he keeps playing well when the Niners don't have elite weapons all around him.
