REAL FOOTBALL Thread

So it's looking like Quinn, Shanahan, and who knows for DC. IIRC Nolan is still unattached maybe he gets a new diresction from QUinn

I guess no one has pointed out that Rodgers was pretty severely injured going into that game? It was obvious. After watching him in season there is no way that guy is even 75% right now. Sure he didn't play like he normally does but cmon.

Can't compare QBs that are in two totally incomparable situations. Russ would be screwed on Indy. No defense to bail him out, no steady run game to constantly take the pressure off. I really respect the plays he made yesterday, but they aren't possible if his team isn't just really, really good all around. On any other team, that 1st half has the team buried. He loses that game on any other team. Easy.

Nice hire for Falcons. He should get that offense playing well. Happy for him. He might be able to get a running game/play action for Matty Lice. Ryan should be pretty happy

Serious discussion in this down time before the Super Bowl.

If you have a kid, would you let your kid play football before High School? I don't mean flag football or anything like that I mean real tackle football.

I wouldn't personally. Same reason I wouldn't let my kid pitch as a kid either. I'd let him throw and work on building his strength to pitch come high school and teach him form, but not let him pitch competitively. I'd even be leary of high school given the way I've seen some HS coaches abuse pitchers.

Depends on his future. I mean if he could go to the next level then thats a huge variable to consider. I enjoyed the hell out of football and wouldn't trade it for anything, but it ended with HS.

I liked football when I played, but I have little doubt that not playing as a kid has been better for my long term mental health. I think baseball (aside from pitching), Basketball, and Soccer are better sports though all sports represent a risk. I wouldn't want my kid going through what I went through on the OL. Maybe if he was a QB or WR.

I played OL and OLB, for a small school. It wasn't bad.

I can't say my ankles and legs feel great on cold mornings, but other than that I loved it.

I'm not talking about ankle and leg injuries, I'm talking about brain injuries. Taking a lot of hits to the head as a developing kid is dangerous. Come high school it is safer, so I'd be willing to do that. But as a kid growing up, you could be stunting brain development for all we know.

I would let him play what he wanted to, when he wanted to, and just make sure I was involved in it. Pitching overuse when they are young can be avoided if the parents get involved in a good way.

As far as football, eh kids are spry and bounce back pretty well. Only real concern is head injuries, but if he wants to play he is going to take that risk at some point. And the hits you take in pee wee football aren't really that critical.

It doesn't have to do with how hard the hits are as often as how many times. There was a kid in HS or College who committed suicide who had CTE in his brain but no documented concussion injuries.
