REAL FOOTBALL Thread

The refs have really been brutal so far. A phantom DPI, Kelce should have at least 2 taunting penalties. If I was the Bills coachs I'd tell them to ****ing end Mahomes. If he runs the ball Trevor Lawrence him.

Refs just denies the Bills a first down. Allen got the ball to the 40 It's clear as day.

Quite clear.

It was a first down. It was close, but I think replay clearly shows it was a first down.

But I knew as soon as it went to replay that they wouldn't overturn it. Aside from goal line situations, out of bounds challenges, or a down by contact review, I don't think I've ever seen a spot challenge be overturned, even when it was clear the player had the line to gain. They always just go with the Refs judgement on the field. It's like they don't want to make the individual ref on the field look bad, so they just make the whole crew look bad.

I'm a Chiefs fan (I'm from Missouri) and even I have to admit these calls are getting ridiculous.

It's not just the Chiefs because all of the best teams get these calls.

New England got away with murder in the Brady years as did the Cowboys.

What I don't understand about it. Is they spotted it based on the side judge who couldn't see the ball. The one who did spotted it a half yard past the first down marker. He was also wrong. But it was a clear first down. I saw it live, replay made it clear, and the refs weren't gonna overturn it though because moving it a football length isn't something they've ever done from a replay. I wish they could have said (I know it would require a rule change) was something like "We are checking the replay for spot because of a judge disagreement before spotting the ball" because they're not going to overturn the call on the field unless it was really wrong.

It's not truly special for the chiefs. Like I'm not a full ass pessimist. The Chiefs just get away with everything. How Travis Kelce didn't get a taunting call is beyond me. He had 2 clear scenarios to get it and didn't get it. The issue is that teams are going to start hauling off on guys. If the refs won't enforce the rules expect players to start hauling off. Like Mahomes doing the not sliding thing, teams are just gonna start really hitting him. LIke if you're going to get a 15 yard foul, might as well make it count. He's gonna get Trevor Lawrenced next year, that's my not bold prediction. Kelce's also going to have people flopping when he gets in their face.

I just don't understand why they don't use the technology in place. They have chips in the football now. How hard is it to put a grid system in the ground so you know exactly where the ball is at any given time? You don't even have to use it 99% of the time. Only use for it for review purposes, like last night, where would have been able to tell with 100% certainty that Allen made that first down.

Or even employ full time specialized referees

If you're suggesting VAR for the NFL, that's not the way.

Many of these things (ball spots for example) can be quickly done by technology. THe tech is already on the fields. Every NFL stadium has the ability for this right now with just some software they can accurately spot the ball every time. And I'm fine with refs spotting it most of the time unless it's near the first down marker.

Bills got 2 first downs on 2 plays in a row (Kincaid got the first, then allen) that weren't given.

Use the same tech we use to spot the first down and LoS lines on TV broadcasts. With the sensors in the ball this could be real time information being fed to the back judge to simply say "First Down" or "short of first down"

I mean if you can't see where the ball actually is because it's too crowded around the ball, it makes zero sense not to use this technology. Figure out where the ball is to make an accurate call and stop all these needless controversies.

I mean they should use it almost any time you are close to the line of gain. It's better to be right than not. Even if it's only first down use it because a holding call and you're looking at 2nd and 11 instead of first and 20.

I honestly dont think the Bills got the first down in either instance but it was super close.

But, I thought the refs in the Commanders/Bills were much worse than Chiefs/Bills. The Commanders would have to play almost perfect to beat the Eagles, the Commanders were supposed to be in year 1 of the rebuild but got lucky with a top QB and a coach that makes all the right calls. Playing straight up with no TOs, it would still be tough. Turn the ball over 3 times and its going to be near impossible to beat them. Having said that, getting the raw end of the deal on every single call makes it even tougher.

Lets be honest, who has ever heard the refs threaten to award a team the TD? You have zero chance to stop a TD when the refs say "Hey if you try to time the snap, we are giving them a TD" Granted, this was after the game was likely over anyway so can only be so mad at that.

Eagles 20-12. They have 4th and 5 and have a clear hold (Barkley) right in the middle of the line in view of the QB that is not called. Ok, holds happen all the time so can be but so upset but its like how the refs would be taught what a hold is.

Ok, we still battle back and on 3rd down, what do you know....a pass interference call. Granted- I will say this one was the correct call but we all know it is often not called.

The Eagles proceed to score and then Brown/Lattimore get into a fight and Lattimore gets his helmet ripped off and is the only one penalized for the play. Oddd.......but they missed the 2 pointer so it did not impact the game (might have helped us).

3rd and 10 and they have a short play but what do you know, the Commanders corners hits Barkely at the exact moment that Barkley's left foot hits out of bounds. If its a QB, yeah, this gets called every day of the week, but how often is a 230 pound running back given this call? Almost never.

On the very next possession, CGJ pushes Ertz a good 4 yards out of bounds and no call.

Down 34-23 and Ekeler fumbles. Granted, it appears the Eagles player falls on the fumble, there was never clear video of the Eagles player possessing the ball, just that he falls on top of it. The Commanders player almost immediately comes away from the pile with the ball. This isn't reviewed but the odd thing is the Eagles benefited from this exact same scenario against the Packers the week before. Maybe the Eagles player had clear possession for about 1 second, but we will never know.

The next possession Slay goes through Luke McCaffrey for a no call but call the Commanders for a ticky tack pass interference 2 plays later.

More than likely it does not alter the outcome of the game (who knows), but I've never seen a team get so many game/momentum changes calls in their favor in such a big game. Its not just "ah, they were holding all game," it was punch in the nuts instead of the a turnover on downs or long FG attempt, the Eagles get the ball on 1st down again. Not every call was the worst call ever but it was enough very sketchy calls to be irritating.

Having said that, we probably get crushed vs. Chiefs, but I'm very happy with where the Commanders are at with a ton of draft capital and tons of cap space. The best part is we dont have to go get a QB and we have an absolute stud at QB that had an amazing season with almost no weapons. No running game. Mediocre offensive line. A corpse at TE. 1 good WR...and we scored at will most of the season, including the playoffs.

I didn't find the reffing that bad.

The awarding a TD thing is in the rules. At some point the refs have the right to step in and continue the game.

I do think we're moving towards a ruling for the tush push. defenders are cheating because what's the downside? If they're going to get the first down or TD anyway why not try to jump/line up in the neutral zone etc. Chris Jones was in the neutral zone or offsides multiple times yesterday but it wasn't called. That's the best defensive strategy and it sucks. It makes for bad football. And I suspect a change in rule from the NFL, like limiting the number of players in a box established on the OL to like 7 or 8. TO stop the Tush Push and the full sell out defense. Booth review for neutral zone infractions. Etc.

Like look at Chris Jones

**** link isn't wokring I give.

Anyway, enjoy it Gilesfan, you have a fun team, you have a ton of cap room to bolster your OL, receiver room, or edges.
