REAL FOOTBALL Thread

There is a broad sweeping generalization that all cheaters are equal.

There's a lot of hungry sharks circling Brady in the water right now. I hope you guys get the justice you so desperately demand.

He cheated and deserves to get suspended for the actions of it.

Not a full year or anything but some games.

Oh, so he's gonna play 20 more years at an elite level, ok got it.

In logic and critical thinking, a slippery slope is a logical device, but it is usually known under its fallacious form, in which a person asserts that some event must inevitably follow from another without any rational argument or demonstrable mechanism for the inevitability of the event in question.

I think he plays this year, the year after then they part ways if you want me to not troll you about it.

I could see them trade him if Garopolo impressed if he got suspended for some time, wouldnt bet on it but the NFL's a brutal business.

And top tier players have been cut/traded before, so it wouldnt come as some huge shock if it happened to Brady.

Just admit you did it, no punishment, if any would come from it. I would understand why you would do it, hell I would, but if they asked me if I did, I would say yeah, I couldn't get a good grip with my small hands. You lied, you will be forever labeled a cheater because......you lied. Just like Big Head Bonds, ARoid and others, well this happen and that happen, you took schit or you lied that you did not know this person, same thing, lying goes against integrity. I respect people with integrity, those who lie are beneath me no matter how much they make, they are lying ass cheaters.

I hope he's not suspended 4 games, because we play them week 4. while he greatly increases the chances of a cowboys' loss, i generally want to see the best players play, and that could be a great game with Brady in there.

You named 3 examples that span 3 decades. That's not exactly a common occurrence.

There are certainly other examples of teams parting ways older QBs after they have missed some time. Those are just the only examples I listed because they were the best comps being that they were elite QBs. But for giggles, you also have McNair, McNabb and Brunell among others.

You can name over 100 examples easily of quarterbacks that didn't lose their job due to injury.

Besides, your examples all dealt with players that had serious injury issues. There was legitimate concern with their ability to return from injury for all of those guys you mentioned. Tom Brady is going to miss a couple early season games. The only way he loses his job is if his performance when he comes back dictates that he should and not because Jimmy G strutted his stuff in September.

The point is there is certainly precedent for it to happen. Brady is going to be 38 at the start of the season. It wouldn't be astonishing if Jimmy G played very well in his absence, that Brady loses his job. May be not immediately, but by the start of the 2016 season.

I would be very astonished actually.

Brady is not going to lose his job if Jimmy Garapolo plays well. He just isn't.

Carp'd

It's been a long time since Carpe has been Carpe. I was concerned for a little bit he may have matured and gotten smarter. Then came the wonderful Carpe, president of the Jimmy Garoppolo fan club.

MOre likely what will happen is if Garoppolo plays well Pats will trade him to a dumb team for a low first or high second round pick and probably one or 2 more since he does have 2 more years of team control.

So, Ray Rice initially got 2 games for beating his fiance/wife unconscious, but Brady gets 4 for low air pressure? Totally legit.

Fyi, I dislike brady and thought he should be suspended four games... this is more a knock at the league in general and the Ray Rice punishment than anything.

BRady will likely appeal, go to an arbitrator and have it reduced to 2 games.

NFL went for 4 to look tough, but knows it's probably going to get reduced on appeal. SMoke and mirrors.

Patriots are being railroaded just like the Saints were in Goodellgate. I hope Brady fights this because he will win just like the saints players did. I am still pissed they didn't get the same caliber of punishment though. Bill and Brady should be suspended the full season. It doesn't matter if Bill didn't know, he should have known, that's the precedent Goodell set for Payton.

That's not why Payton was suspended. He was suspended because Loomis snitched and said he told them to stop and the report went on to say it wasn't.

I dont know where your getting that. It was the owner who told them to stop when the league investigated in 09. Anyways, from PFT

Second, Saints coach Sean Payton lost an entire season despite not knowing what former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was doing regarding bounties. Ignorance is no excuse, the league declared at the time.

More specifically, the letter from Commissioner Goodell suspending Payton explained that his denials of knowledge “are inconsistent with the contractual responsibility to supervise and direct the coaches and players, and with the obligations imposed on you by the NFL Constitution and Bylaws.” Goodell also said “t was your obligation to know of such a program and to stop if once you did know.”

So if Payton had an obligation to know of a program run exclusively by Gregg Williams to pay players small amounts of cash for clean, legal hits that knocked players out of games, why didn’t Belichick have an obligation to know of an scheme run by Brady to provide signed memorabilia to the man who would ensure that footballs deemed perfect at 12.5 PSI would be made even more perfect with the quick insertion of a needle?

I am really almost to the point where I think the NFL is purposely manufacturing these scandals to keep attention on the league year round for more revenue. Ol Rog has made some pretty ridiculous claims about how much he thinks he can grow league revenue by 2027. Wonder if we wont start seeing 1 of these scandal/storylines every offseason. We even had the Browns/Falcons in on lesser scales this year. Maybe next year its the Jets because their OLinemen put vasoline on their arms in a cold game. You have to be naive to think that QB's manipulating the balls air pressure isnt done league wide. Jeff Blake admitted doing it every game of his career. Same **** as performance bounties, it was a common practice. If every team does it does that make it cheating?
