REAL FOOTBALL Thread

if a DB is beaten so badly he may not be able to murder the WR...and i think the spot foul is way too generous to the QB and WR anyway. when a total jump ball gets called PI (which is called questionably all the time) it bails out the offense. bad throws being bailed out by PI is really bad IMO.

the line between DPI and OPI is so blurred at this point, punishing a defense that harshly on a call that could go either way is rough. i really like this change, personally.

Again a jumpball that Julio Jones goes for and Julio gets those throws because he's an amazing athlete who can outjump any DB in the game. Instead the defense can just drape over him and ruin the chance for a big game. Possibly hurting him as well.

I just doubt it will happen like you say, or as often as you're suggesting. Julio doesn't win every single jump ball or else all you would have to do is lob it up every single play. Defenders still won't just gladly take a penalty. It works fine in college. I'd rather bad throws not get bailed out bigly in critical times due to a spot foul.

Zero chance Brees plays for anyone but the Saints in 2018. They were a miracle missed tackle away from an NFC Championship game appearance. Both sides want to work a deal out. A deal will get done, IMO.

Awfully nice of them to congratulate Drew on his new contract. No chance Brees tarnishes what he has by leaving. He wants to run for governor when he is done.

You guys can count me among those who believe that these contracts for professional athletes have entered the "crazy zone" but I'd pay Brees $50M for 2 years all day long before I'd pay Cousins $86M for the rest of recorded time, and I don't dislike Cousins' game at all.

Not a Saints fan, but have been a huge Brees fan since he came out of Perdue. I remember wanting the Cowboys to get him somehow. But we ended up with Quincy Carter that draft, so all's well that ends well.

If you remember Michael Bennet who filed a lawsuit against the Las Vegas PD. He has been indicted on felony charges of injury to the elderly for allegedly pushing an elder paraplegic security guard. The only witness..... is a cop.... and these charges come 14 months after the alleged incident. **** with police gang and they will get their pound of flesh from you.

Cowboys release Dez. I’m surprised they did. Jerry is usually a loyal guy. Probably for the best though. Dez is not the same player he once was.

Yeah, I'm fine with it too, just a bit disappointed at how they went about it. Dez says the "Garrett Guys" sold him out, set him up, or whatever and I tend to believe him as far as the ultimate release. JJ had to either pick his coach who lets him run things and to whom he gives way too much loyalty or his marquee (in name only anymore) player to whom he has long given too much loyalty. I just hope when the Cowboys have another down year Garrett and most of his stooge assistant coaches (not all though) get shown the door.

By the way, as our resident Tide expert what do you think about Ridley in Round 1? He's awfully thin. Can he get separation in the NFL? Can he hold up to the beating a WR takes at the next level?

I would love Ridley for Dallas in Round 1. He’s got the speed that can get separation and he went his three years relatively healthy. If he’s still there at 19, I’d love for Dallas to get him.

If he’s there at 19 then I am not a happy camper. I know it’s highly unlikely, but I want the 49ers to pick him.

Good chance San Francisco gets him. Along with them, there are other receiver needy teams before the Cowboys like Buffalo, Washington, and Baltimore. Green Bay and Arizona also need a receiver, but I think they’ll address other needs in the first. Only way I think Dallas get Ridley is trading into the top eight and I’m sure I want them to do that.

I think I'd rather them get the Van Der Whatever LB from Boise State or the best OG available in Round 1 and go for the best WR left in Round 2 or 3, so that's a pretty good guarantee they will take the WR kid from SMU even if they trade up into the top 8, lol.

Vander Esch has been rising up the draft boards. Cowboys need linebackers. And yes, a quality WR can be had in the second round. Though if Ridley is already gone and Christian Kirk is available, that would be tempting to me.
