I feel terribly bad for 5-6 year old kids who never watched sports before, and one day happened to find their dad in the den getting drunk watching Sunday Night Football to two teams his/her dad have no allegiance to. If they end up liking Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, they're not real fans because they weren't alive to see them win superbowls so they have aren't true fans, just front-runner fans because both of those teams are going to make the playoffs this year.
TBS Braves fans aren't real Braves fans, unless you were in the state of Georgia, or South Carolina/Tennessee/Alabama on a town hugging the Georgia border. If you're a Braves fan because of TBS living in Oregon or North Dakota, you're not a real fan because you never lived anywhere close to Atlanta and you've probably never attended a Braves game seeing as how there's no major league teams in either of those states. It doesn't matter if you used to watch all 162 games on TBS, 2 decades ago, because you don't have a dad + a gramps + a great gramps who liked the team, unless of course if you lived in North Dakota and your great grandpa previously lived in the neighbor state of Wisconsin where you would have been a fan of the Milwaukee Braves. Then it's ok.
I think that's what gilesfan is trying to say.
