REAL FOOTBALL Thread

I agree with a lot of that. I haven't started looking at the draft really.

I agree with DE OG\OT and DT picks... Babs isn't under contract and is our best interior lineman.

I would take a WR with good return ability somehwere too even though I like Darius Johnson in the slot. We don't have ANY big plays on special teams since we let Weems go.

I fully believe a third rounder that will be taken as early as we will be picking should contribute early. Unless you are crazy deep...

By the way... Peter Konz looks like a colossal bust. He is grading out as the worst player at his position but doesn't have enough snaps at either C or OG to qualify. Brutal miss.

I'm OK with giving Konz another year to get things straight. Odds are he's a bust, but it could be an adjustment period. This year he's effectively a rookie at C. Falcons HAVE to stop putting him at guard though. He can survive as a center but he cannot be a guard. Whatever mental or physical reason ehs' sucked over there. He hasn't been amazing at C, but I think a better RG next to him and he does better. I wonder why the Falcons down't try Hawley out at guard.

These days their pass blocking is better than their run blocking. When was the last time Gore got a hand off without already having defenders in the backfield after him? Niner fans blame injuries and other teams stacking the box but all of our RB's have been shut down in nearly every game this year whether the box is stacked and whether we're healthy or not.

Nobody runs on an 8 man defense anymore. We will see what the running game looks like when Crabtree is healthy.l

Well, there is a legit possibility that he could get Ryan killed. So, if he struggles too much we need to avoid the bigger loss. (Ryan)

That is true but what better options do the Falcons have? Hawley? He isn't that much better if at all.

Assuming we cut Asante, Tony walks, and rework roddy we may have about 6-12 million to play with depending on what we rework with Roddy and I'm not sure how much cap space we need for picks. I would also consider the possibility of letting Roddy walk if we can get Maclin on a deal and Roddy won't take a deal. Unless we go after Alex Mack and he doesn't break the bank I can't imagine us getting an improvement on Konz. But I would welcome Mack and hopefully he comes in for pretty cheap. What I really want is to sign Jared Veldheer. But I think the Raiders keep him. Guy is super underrated.

Raiders have a ton of cap space, i think they at least tag him.

But if Atl could get him, that would be big, very good player.

Brandon Albert would be a good fit for them depending on the cost.

Browns will try to keep Mack, i think, he'll cost a hefty penny though, top 2-3 C.

They are getting HFA in the NFC. Only teams that have a chance got their **** pushed in by the Seahawks in Seattle. Carolina may be the only hope at this point.

SF would have a shot, their defense has been very, very good as of late.

And we'll see how getting Crabtree back will affect them.

Not sure on Carolina.

And i'd give the Saints another shot, hard to see them losing that bad again but who knows.

They don't have anything. This FO drafts linemen about as poorly as possibly, so I'm ready to abandon ship with their drafting of OL\DL completely. Bring in Vet FA's and let em play....

Veldheer is rumored to be offered an extension this season...

I don't worrry about the money really...there are ways around most of that I think. Mack would help a lot, Albert too... Ahhh pipedreams...

It shouldn't matter. We ran the ball for years with a crappy line, crappy QB and crappy receivers. The box was stacked against us from 2004 until Kap took over last year. There's no excuses other than piss poor blocking and predictive play calling like using Hunter and James as soon as they get on the field.

Well the current group has only selected like 2 linemen in the first 2 rounds with Konz and Baker. Baker I think has done well for a late first OT. Injuries are a big thing with him though. Falcons are really missing Clabo though.

Just musing some potential cap savings next offseason

Tony 7M
Roddy 5M
Samuel 5.25M
DeCoud 3M (for the love of god get rid of him)
Osi 3.5M
Jackson 1.83
Nicholas 2
Douglas 1.84
Biermann 2.5
Bryant 2.75

Those are most of the big savings. I left off Spoon and Snelling cause I'd be shocked if either of them were cut. Harry I only included because he could be excellent trade bait. He's on his way to a 1000 yard season so maybe some foolish team will offer up a low 2 or high 3 for him. If they do we should do it and sign Maclin or somone like that instead.

I'd flip douglas in a minute for picks. I think a lot of the little guy Darius Johnson. Id cut Beirman, Nicholas, (I think Roddy extension is in the works), DeCoud, and Samuel.

Baker is garbage. Jerry was a teens pick on the DL. So we are basically 0\3 on linemen. Oh and Holmes was a 3rd? He is completely overmatched.
