Gore being better than Portis doesn't mean much. There are bascally 5 guys aged 27-29 who're close to each other who are active. Jackson, Peterson,Gore, MJD, and Chris Johnson. With Marshawn on the heels of that group but he's 26. Gore if he can play late into his career, will be a hall candidate. As it is, he's likely in a Dale Murphy position, you can point at things you like but he falls short. Assuming he has 2 more years in him, he will end up around somewhere like Tiki Barber, Jamaal Lewis, RIcky Watters (for who for what) and Warrick Dunn. That's assuming decent but not too much regression. If he rocks those 2 years he's more int he Fred Taylor COrey Dillon range. Biggest knock on him though is scores, Basically he's Ricky Watters right now. He needs to move above that level to get in as RIcky has been HOF eligible for years.

And he's never been close to top RB in the NFL. I think he has 1 2nd team All Pro selection in his career and a bunch of never considered years.

All fair points. I'm obviously a homer and Gore has meant everything to this team since he has been drafted. I think he will have another solid, not spectacular two years.

11th best? Is this something to brag about? How many have 200 carries? 12?

Part of being a HOFer is to be good for many years. How many RB's will be HOFers moving forward anyway considering how much less teams run. Just like the bar should be raised for quarterbacks the bar should be lowered for running backs.

THough im sure Falcons fans arent mad about it, higher draft pick is always good.

How many years would he even be considered top 5? Gore in the HOF would make Biggio look like a shoe in in the baseball HOF.

Who cares if a back comes out of nowhere and has two great years but does nothing after that? Gore has been one of the better backs in the league for almost a decade. That means something.

Gore could maybe get in on Emmitt Smith Standards where you stick around forever and pile stats on. Of course Smith was a better RB than Gore, Of the 2000s RBs (guys who played a healthy chunk of their career and rpime in the 2000s whcih I'd consider Gore a part of) the guys above Gore are

Tomlinson
Edge
Taylor
Dillon
Dunn
Lewis
Thomas Jones
Jackson
Tiki
George (he's really more of a tweener)
AP
RIcky Williams
Portis

Though Gore will for sure be past Portis at the end of this season.

Though there are guys who're well withing striking distance of Gore who could pass him as well you have to wathc for like MJD, Johnson, Lynch, Forte, and Rice. I think that Lynch and Rice are the biggest threats to overtaking Gore.
