What a horribly called game by the Saints. Across the board Payton has struggled. Seattle with a chance to drive the stake in here with any score.
Shouldn't be. He was playing the ball, not impeding Graham's ability to make the catch. A DPI would have been a travesty call and would have secured my belief that the NFL has a boner for Brees/Payton.
Payton doesn't have a choice here. He has to challenge the catch. Not getting overturned though. Nothing on the replay is enough for the refs to change their minds.
Thomas hit Graham well before the call got there. That's the definition of interference.
probably would have been smart to just fall down after first down, but game is over
No it isn't. You need to brush up on your rules before squaring up with me
From the NFL rule digest
(a) Contact by a defender who is not playing the ball and such contact restricts the receiver’s opportunity to make the catch.
The whole idea of DPI is that you're stoping a receiver from amking a play. Thomas touching Graham didn't impede Graham's ability to make the play. Thomas's body was in front of Graham's or they arrived at the same time, neither of them are fouls.
He hits Graham in the back before the ball got there. Watch the play again.
Good win for Seattle, but Payton called an awful game today.
Too many runs.
Defense held up about as well as you could ask.
