REAL FOOTBALL Thread

So how often have Kaep, Newton, Alex Smith, Foles, Luck, or Dalton gotten hurt?

How many of those guys are even 35 to judge the injury histories of running QBs and if they last past 35?

How many of those guys have played in the NFL for a long time like the guys you're citing like Brees, Brady, etc.?

But nice try. Glossing over injury to RGMe. Alex Smith was hurt in 2012 when he received a concussion running with the ball.

All of the guys listed haven't been in the NFL for more than 3 seasons. Maybe when they have more mileage you'll see.

Fun Fact, even Vick was relatively healthy when he was younger. His only injury that caused him to miss serious time before he went to jail was his broken leg (which happened on a scramble)

NFL wears on you, why do you think running backs don't age well? You think QBs are exempt from the same thing?

So you are comparing 35 year old guys to 22 year olds and saying "See, look at these guys, they haven't played into their 30s!"

So you are comparing 35 year old guys to 22 year olds and saying "See, look at these guys, they haven't played into their 30s!"

Because it's happened over and over and over again. Injuries hit them hard and fast. Steve Young, Randall Cunningham, Donovan McNabb, Steve McNair, VIck, so on so forth. Running QBs wear down because they take big hits a lot. I understand you're in denial because you have a running QB. Running QBs are awesome in bursts, they win for you but then they're either hurt a ton or out of the NFL.

Steve Young played until he was 38 years old. Played 15 games at 36 and 37.

Cunningham played until he was 38, though the last couple years as a backup. As a 35 year old, he was essentially the best QB in the NFL.

McNabb played until he was 35.

McNair played until he was 34.

Vick is still playing.

But, getting back to your point, all of these guys have long successfull career and were considered "running" QBs. Outside of Vick, all of them were durable. At no point have you proved your theory that hits outside of the pocket are worse than hits inside the pocket.

Peyton just missed a season. Brady and Palmer have torn their knees up. Marino missed a year. Montana was notoriously injured. Cutler can never stay healhty....the list could go on and on. Many "pocket passing" QBs retired in their early to mid 30s.

I was hoping you'd take the young bait.

Steve Young took 825 Attempts and 104 sacks which is the equivalent of less than 2 years of a modern day QB typically (Ryan dropped back 450 times as a rookie) before turning 30. Basically if you count those as 2 years, he had a total of 10 full seasons in the NFL.

Which will be the equivalent of Cam playing just into his 30s.

Also what alternate reality was Donovan mcNabb durable? Sure he was durable until he was 28, then after that he only didn't miss games once the rest of his career with an injury.

Why would you compare him (or anyone on that list) to Tom Brady who's missed a grand total of 15 games in his 13 years as a starter.

And the ratio of QBs who lasted full playing careers as a starter into their late 30s as a QB of runnig QBs vs pocket passers is huge. ou really can't come up wit hone for the running QBs, yet in the NFL today we have soon ot be 38 year old Peyton Manning, Soon to be 37 year old Tom Brady, 35 year old Drew Brees. You site this and that, Brees has missed 2 games in the last decade. Peyton Manning has missed 16 games in his 16 game career.

Compare that to Vick, Cunningham, McNabb, McNair, etc. who missed way more games than that in shorter careers.

Great move! Boldin is still a solid WR. 49ers just need to add dsome sort of stretch option and then they will have another dynamic offense next year.

2 years, 12 million, 9 mil guaranteed.

Not too bad.

9M guaranteed is a lot. Not a terrible contract but that makes him higher paid than Wes Welker was last offseason in guaranteed salary. Again, not a terrible contract, but maybe a tinge of an overpay but not a big deal.

Boldin is better and more versatile than Welker.

Its a very good deal and provides a much needed bridge to hopefully a time when we can draft and develop another good WR.

I just don't know how we are going to keep everyone after hte massive Kilgore/Boldin deals!!

Boldin the last 3 seasons

2987 yards 14 TDs 14 rushing yards

Welker the last 3 seasons

3701 yards 25 TDs 50 rushing yards.

3 years before free agency

3771 yards 22 TD 50 rushing yards

Welker was also younger.

While Boldin has some more skills and Welker has some more skills. Boldin is a better 2 Welker is a more dangerous weapon.

Welker also played with two of the greatest QB's of all time. I love me some Kaep but come on now. These numbers are not comparable right now.

But again...how are we going to function because of that HUGE Kilgore signing Zito!!!!??!?!?!??!

Will be funny a few years from now when you can't keep players you have now.

For your information just so you know the Niners are abut 10M under their 2014 cap. They'll save space down the line getting rid of guys like Rodgers. But they're going to get a 10+ million dollar increase from Kaepernick.

Sure it makes sense to compare Welker and Boldin's numbers. Similar offensive systems and both played with quarterbacks on a similar talent level...

zito has the dumbest statement of the off season.

And a ridiculous increase in the actual cap.

Welker also has a different skill set. Boldin is a primary target Welker was traditionally a secondary. Different weapons for sure, and yeah Boldin played for worse QBs, but that isn't the only difference.
