London’s 19 contested catches were six more than any college player last season. That would seem to be a positive, but it can and has been twisted into a commentary on his lack of speed. That line of thinking goes like this: “If he was faster, he could create separation and wouldn’t have to make so many contested catches, and if he can’t create separation, he won’t be very good in the NFL.”

Nate Tice doesn’t buy that argument. Tice, the son of former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice, has worked in the NFL as a coach and scout and now covers trends and pro prospects for The Athletic.

“I had no issues with his quote-unquote separation because what I was noticing was that the USC quarterbacks were terrible,” said Tice, himself a former college quarterback at Wisconsin. “So he would break his defender off and create a couple yards and then the ball is late and the defender is able to close. I didn’t see (his speed) as big a blemish as other people did.”

Tice rated London the top receiver in this year’s class.

“Going in, I thought he was just going to be a big, stiff ball-winner, Mike Williams, vertical only, catching some balls, ‘OK, cool,’ but he had more nuance to his game than I was expecting,” Tice said. “He was a much better route runner than I expected at 6-4, like not listed 6-4, he measured in at 6-4. With basketball players, I usually expect those guys to be a bit stiffer. They can jump but maybe not bend. What shocked me when I watched him, and this is what made me so high on him, was he was able to sink (his hips when changing direction), he was able to come out of his routes. He’s already a good route runner. It’s surprising to see someone at that size move like that. He’s a very fluid athlete.”

Falcons just stole Bryan Edwards from the Raiders. An immediate clear young #2 receiver for a 5th rounder. Also get a 7th rounder back. All of the sudden, the Falcons have a pretty high ceiling set of pass catchers

Clear number 2? Come on now. Dude is coming off 34 receptions on 59 targets and 571 yards receiving. He has some talent, but to call him a clear number 2 in most offenses in the league seems like a huge stretch. Also, it seems like you could have signed Beasley or Sanders, who probably can be expected to post similar production.

Yes... he came off that in his SECOND year in the league and is only 23... with London and Pitts in the fold, he's easily a clear #2 with his body size, age, and talent. Beasley or Sanders? I mean, I guess if you're looking for a slot receiver. We are not. Edwards is a true X receiver option. Honestly, the Falcons have knocked the off season out of the park. They will be bad in 2022, but the future sure looks bright.

Lol Desaun only got 6 games. Can't wait to see the Pretzel the NFL will put itself into to justify that. While Ridley got a whole year for gambling. NFL is saying Gambling is worse than sexually assaulting women.

The NFL should have no part in it to begin with. Teams should be the one dishing out discipline if they believe it is warranted. After Goodell who helped cover up CTE research got promoted to commisioner what worse crime in terms of hurting the NFL can there be? The only thing worse than that imo is fixing games.

As for Watson. I think he should get credit for time served having sat out last year. Funny how the Texans are run by a religious extremist but they were fine with keeping Watson if he would stay.

Yeah tank for Anderson.

I'll be interested to see where the Falcons go next year. If Ridder isn't the answer at QB it's going to be hard to pass on a QB, especially if one distinguishes himself this year. But then again a guy like Anderson could anchor your defense for years.

Yeah tank for Anderson.

Anderson is great but thats gonna depend how Ridder looks when he plays. Gonna be hard to pass on Stroud or Young if Atlanta is able to get them, even as good as Anderson is. There's pass rushers available every year.

I mean there’s QBs available every year

Kinda silly pov

If you want a franchise QB, you need to draft one super high or trade for one. QB's dont hit on Day 2 or later, not many do anyway. There's plenty of pass rushers available on Day 2/later.

I mean Anderson is a near top end talent. I'm nervous about QBs from Ohio State and Bama.

Still a lot of football to be played in the college season. Stroud and Young have plenty of opportunity left to show they're legit NFL prospects or that they're not. Other QBs too.

But if there's a clear top notch QB prospect and he's available when the Falcons pick, I'm not sure how they can pass. They wont be competitive without a new franchise QB and QB's often take a little time to break in. So the longer they go without their next QB, the longer it will be until they're competitive.

Falcons are 0-2. Kyle Pitts has 4 catches for less than 40 yards total. And it's not that he's been getting blanketed, he's just not being used.

Either Pitts has taken a massive step back and the coaching staff knows this or else Arthur Smith is a complete idiot.
