Red Sox Aquire Sale

The Fangraphs prospect writer said today Acuna is possibly in his top 50 right now. I think top 10 is pushing it, but if he goes out and dominates, the tools are there for it.

Baseball Prospectus has Acuna as our #2 prospect. Right or wrong with his placement, clearly we're not just hyping him.

If Acuna hits anything close to what he did at Rome over a full season at high A then he most certainly will be a top 10 prospect. I am buying them Andruw Jones hype.

Acuna is having a pretty good fall league himself. In 12 games he is hitting .319/.347/.511 1 double/1 triple/ 2 homers with 10 rbi and 8 SB.. 23% K rate .... He has hit into 4 double plays. But I also know he had a great start, then got ice cold and is heating back up again.

we have a couple of guys having a nice fall showing. old man Ronnier and Joey Meneses both having good seasons (46 games)..

The hit tool isn't there of a Moncada or a Bryant but the reason the likes of Swanson and Albies (#12 on mlb pipeline) are ranked as high as they are is that they project to be good hitters and fielders at an up the middle position. If Acuna profiles as that in Center then he will jump up the lists pretty quickly.

Kopech's helium is coming from a dominating performance at High A, then followed by a dominating AFL against some of the better prospects in baseball. 14.19 K per 9. 5 BB per 9. 1.04 Whip

Acuna's is coming from 148 Low A at bats, plus some winter league stuff.

Frankly, I don't understand why Acuna has so MUCH helium right now.

Don't get me wrong, I like Acune. I just think he needs to do a lot more to be considered one of the better prospects in baseball. I hope he does.

Acuna had a great year in A-ball at 18 (even if in limited time). Kopech had a great year in A+ at 20 (in limited time himself). And scouting reports factor in heavily as well.

I don't know why you're acting as though Kopech's performance was undeniably brilliant while Acuna's was just alright. They both had great years, and Acuna's scouting reports are glowing.

Look at Victor Robles, his helium is due to scouting reports in addition to a great year in A-ball at 19, a year older than Acuna. They actually put up pretty comparable numbers. Is Robles' helium also not legit? Or does he have to do a lot more to be considered one of the better prospects in baseball?

Woah woah woah. He'd have to have to blow away his A-ball numbers to come close to Andruw Jones hype.

If he blows away A-ball and moves to AA because of performance, he would be a top 20.. his tools are good enough to warrant a lofty ranking.

regardless, it will be fun to watch.

Wow, many feel Lopez is more valuable than Giolito. That was a strong offer by the Nats.

That shows how highly thought of Moncada is.

But, I'm not sure if I would have passed on Lopez/Giolito/Robles if I was the White Sox. That is possibly 40% of their starting rotation this year and a top 5 prospect in all of baseball that could be ready within the next 24 months or so.

Yes, absolutely. Just saying that even then, he wouldn't touch Andruw status, nor should he.

It's probably more valuable but the Sox picked the elite prospect. Can't really blame them there.

Moncada is the best prospect, but I'm not sure that Robles is far enough behind to pass on Giolito and Lopez. It's obvious that all 3 will probably not work out, but that is the talent level of an all star center fielder and 2, top of the rotation starters. (though I am not as high on Giolito as many)

I bet if you added up predicted War (just as a rough guide), the Nats package is higher.

That is an insane package. The ChiSox likely chose the elite positional prospect because pitchers are so risky. Probably a good move by them, and in following with how teams like the Cubs, Astros, Dodgers, and Yankees have rebuilt or are currently rebuilding.

We will see if the Braves pitcher first strategy holds up as well as the position player first strategy most other teams are employing. So far those pitchers haven't impacted the MLB club much.

I'm betting the Nats get Quintana for some lesser version of the package they offered for Sale. In the end the ChiSox end up with the Nats prospects anyways and have the undisputed #1 system in the game.

I like Robles enough for it to be tough, but I don't think I'd be willing to pass up Moncada.

I can see the argument, but if I believed Robles was a CF and that Moncada was a 2B, I would probably lean toward the Nats prospects since you get possibly 2 starters.

Yeah... I think they got stars in their eyes when they realized they could get Moncada plus other top prospects... but the Giolito/Robles/Lopez package is probably better overall... good lord. I guess the thing is pitchers are more volatile so the chance of Lopez and Giolito both being good/healthy is probably not fantastic. Moncada is a much better offensive prospect than Robles (not that he isn't very good)

I couldn't care who gave up what for who. Sale won't be in the NL East, and we weren't dumb enough to give up Swanson for him. Sale on the Nats wouldn't have been hard to take.
