Reports: Braves Acquire Jorge Soler And Luke Jackson From Giants

you guys over estimate twits ability to construct a lineup and deploy a platoon properly. He can't make simple pitching moves, so how can he deploy a platoon properly.

It gets pretty simple soon...
Harris
Soler
Duvall/kelenic (maybe Eddie though if kelenic keeps this up)

When will Harris be back?

Kelenic/Duvall - Harris - Soler is a massively better OF than what we are running out there now

The main problem with this deal isn’t the fact the Braves blew last the luxury cap for a guy they were unwilling to sign for the same deal in February.

The main problem is that next year the Braves will have 3 bat only guys on the roster in Soler, Ozuna, and Olson, and another coming off his second major knee surgery in Acuna who’s time in the OF should be limited.

Ozuna’s option should absolutely be picked up, even if it’s to trade him. Soler should either DH or be traded. Olson’s contract is nearly untradeable as a declining power goon. Acuna shouldn’t be allowed to play 150+ games in the OF.

Sorry to say it, but series of moves like this are exactly how windows of contention slam shut.

That was my point earlier.. next year should be interesting.. even if you let Acuna play RF8 (which he shouldn't every day) then wear does Kelenic play.. you moved heaven and earth to get him and then you trade him just when he becomes cheap seems like a bad deal for the Braves. Olson has to stay at first and you just hope he can shorten the swing and not suck again next year.

feels like there are a lot of dents in AA armor lately.

I don't know what it is, but I woke up today with a sneaky feeling that Kelenic could be traded today. I doubt it happens

I doubt it happens either. I always have to make it clear that I have nothing against Kelenic as a player, but I questioned all the contract shuffling supposedly necessary to acquire him. Given those machinations, there may be a reluctance to move him in order to justify the process. Anthopoulos doesn't strike me as a guy who questions his own moves and he likely stays the course here.

That said, Kelenic is under team control for the next few years and that might be of interest to the Rays as they try to unload Lowe. Nothing surprises me with Anthopoulos so it could be an interesting day.

The move reeks of desperation which is why I don’t like it, along with the contract. But the Braves obviously don’t care about the money at this point, so why should I? We’ll see if it affects their budget long term, but I feel like AA will trade Soler in the off-season anyway (assuming he doesn’t get hurt and is movable). The prospect is a nothing burger.

However, it unquestionably makes us a better team at the moment, which is what we all wanted. Right?

At this point Kelenic is an option to trade. He is super cheap and with a ton of control. He isn't horrible and it is basically a no cost gamble for any team. How much a team values him is the question.

I am glad to have Soler back.. his bat should definitely help.. but like everyone else, this is just a weird and head scratching move. Let the rest of the deadline play out and then we can evaluate everything.

Soler slides into the leadoff spot and is an immediate threat with Riley and Ozuna following so yes we are immediately better.

Darius Vines being DFA’d makes me think he’s already included in another deal. If we plan on Grant Holmes being the #5 or getting spot start duty, then I guess that makes the Jackson inclusion make more sense. With Ynoa coming back we now have 7 AAA starters and Waldrep will make it 8. Vines and another AAA starter could both be on the move today to clear up some space.

It's setting up to be a super boring trade deadline overall. No household names are really available. Either Crochet or Snell seem like the big fish, and while they are both good pitchers, they aren't traditional aces. There is no Soto or Lindor available. No Verlander or Scherzer.

Skubal could make things interesting. But ultimately I don't think anyone is going to match the Tigers demands unless the Orioles are willing to part with Holliday.

Whether people agree on the trade being good or bad, it's not a desperation move. It's a win-now move that AA essentially had to make. I agree with Enscheff that he could have been had in the offseason so it's an unnecessary trade that put Atlanta in an even worse position moving forward, but we're at the point in a contention window that the Chips are pushed forward and these moves happen. Hopefully, Atlanta can grab another title within the next 3-4 years and the long-term contracts have some value that can be traded.

The longer we have those contracts the money won't be so much of an issue for other teams as we pay them, plus the value of FA contracts goes up.

We can worry about next year in the offseason. This deal makes us better this year. A Harris, Soler, Acuna OF next year is not bad at all. Kelenic can be a 4th OF to spell the other 3 and provide some insurance in case somebody gets hurt.

Yup. I think it's this simple, given Soler's outfield defense is decent.

Assuming Soler continues to hit well to close out the year, 2 years 26 million would not be hard to move, imo, should we be so inclined to move him. I personally think Kelenic should be the one to go in the off-season if he can't finish the year strong. When we traded for him, I was expecting quite a bit better than Rosario 2.0.
