Riley out 6-8 weeks

So we would have to make it to the divisional round for Riley to make it back pretty much. I’d say he’s probably done for the year.

Listen if you don't plan on having quality depth to cover 2 OFers going down and 2 IF's going down then you suck at your job

I think the Braves plan for depth was to be so top heavy that they could afford a few injuries yet still get by because the rest of the starting lineup was that good. Unfortunately, too many guys had career worst years at the same time.

MLB.com’s Mark Bowman reported that the Braves are looking internally to replace Austin Riley with players like Luke Williams, Brain Anderson, and Alejo Lopez.
Considering Williams is on the active roster, he’s likely to favorite to get the first crack at the job. The 28-year-old is just 2-for-17 in 23 games at the big league level this season but was hitting .287/.348/.508 in 46 games at Triple-A with eight home runs and 15 steals. He also hit 12 home runs and stole 28 bases in Triple-A last year with the Braves and Dodgers, so there is some mild five-category upside in deeper formats if he can hold onto the job. Both Alejo Lopez and Brian Anderson would need to be added to the 40-man roster, but Lopez is hitting .308/.394/.393 in 96 games at Triple-A with 21 steals, so he could be a speed asset if he gets an opportunity. Nacho Alvarez is currently dealing with pneumonia, which has taken him out of the running for the job, and Bowman claims there are no current plans to move Whit Merrifield to third base.

Yikes

I mean if we’re being honest they didn’t have the depth to cover anyone going down (outside of pitching)

They could cover one of the catchers going down. But how many teams in baseball can cover their starting 2B out 8 weeks, starting 3B out 6-8 weeks, lose your ace and best position player for the season. While also losing your starting center fielder for 2+ months. On top of having other mixed in injuries as well. I get having some guys on the 10 day DL. But you cant plan to lose guys for 2+ months.

Thats plus having absolute insane bad luck in games.

There's not much you can do, and i dont know if you can blame AA for this. No one can predict them losing all these players to injury. It's a miracle they have the record they do at this point.

I think if you get in, we'd have a chance. 3 of Lopez/SS/Fried/Sale in a best of 3, i'd take your chances with that all day. But at this point, one of them is probably next with how this seasons gone.

This might be the final blow (pause). If we get in, cool, but if not, dont think anyone can be mad. Just cant realistically deal with this many injuries in one season and expect to compete.

If soler is back soon, I think the braves can still be tough with their pitching. Olson, ozuna, soler, and Murphy, and Harris are gonna have to hit from here out

Hopefully it will be closer to the 6 weeks than the 8. It being his right hand he may be able to come back and DH if he cant play defense bc its not his lead hand on swing. Hopefully a couple of guys get hot and can help carry the team.

Anyone remember when Freddie came back from a fractured wrist ? That first month is usually rough.

The point isn't whether any team could cover this many injuries.. the point is the Braves couldn't even cover one injury. Even if it was only Riley, then you still have Whit Marryswing covering 3rd.. He shouldn't be on a team trying to contend really. The Faillies realized that. Plus the Braves decided Dufail was the best 4th outfield option and he was not and is not, yet he remains. Ramon has been the only replacement level player that the Braves found that is really suitable for a contending team.

Now because of the shear volume of injuries, guys like Luke Williams get to bunt every at bat... while Kelenic gets to play everyday when he might not even be a good platoon option.

honestly don't get what benefit Riley at DH provides.. The Braves have a better DH than Riley and probably a better back up DH in Soler.. There is only so many DH's a team can realistically force into a lineup.

Ozuna and Soler could play the field if they both had to in that scenario

We can blame AA for having a fringe playoff team in circumstances that most teams would have lost 90 games. That we might fall just short of the playoffs people act like thats a failure on AA's part. Sure we lack depth in some areas but our depth in the rotation and bullpen are top notch. We are top 10 in catcher production with our starter missing most of the season. The problem as I see it is this was a prime season to sell and get some cheap assets to help us in the coming years, but because selling would cause revenue to drop they doubled down and got saddled with a DH when the DH we have is carrying the offense.
