Riley out 6-8 weeks

meh.. he was played way too much and given way too many chances to "prove" himself because he did something in 21... but it is in the past and this season is crap because of regression and injuries. So The Gio move isn't going to be the main reason the Braves miss the playoffs.. But he is certainly not going to help them get there. It will take the rest of the team to carry the scrubs for the Braves to have a shot.

I personally want the best ball players on the field when they are in a literal dog fight for the post season. If the team was up by 7 games, then fine.. try this move.

Umm when you have people like Short, Luke Williams, and Arcia in the lineup… Gio is one of the best players. I don’t think you realize just how bad our options are. No Urshela isn’t exciting or great but you realize we can’t trade for anyone and can only sign cut players, right?

do you really think I don't understand the rules of the game.. I already said I want to see the best option on the field that are available to the team. Even if that means a guy or 2 has to play out of position. Normally I would never suggest this. It is dumb. But for me, making in the playoffs is most important if I am an AA.. So I look at all the inputs and expected outputs of every scenario. Gio defense is below par.. his offense is below par to significantly below par. Olson at 3rd is probably below par to significantly below par.. Ozuna at 1st is below par.. replacing Gio offensively with TDA/Murph is most definitely significantly above par move.

So with less than 40 games left in season, and maybe 20ish games left until Ozzie.. does the defensive draw backs ever catch up to the clear offensive gains.. I personally don't think they do and it was worth giving it a shot. But AA and/or Twit doesn't want to go that route and they run the team.. but I can also be critical and displeased with bringing in another weak offensive/sub par defensive player to an extremely depleted lineup.

I think the bigger issue is the fact that Soler is still not in the lineup. Not that I want them to rush him back, but that yet again the Braves play short handed for what could have easily been an IL stint.

Ozuna will carry us. And we will be the 1st NL team to have the double triple crown.

Seek help.

I guarantee you no one else here shares that opinion about the Angels pitcher secretly being a ****ing double agent.

Oh, I don't think he's a double agent. I think he just did it all on his own......be interesting to see if he's sitting in the Phillies stands in post season. I'll mention to those on the other board that they need help.

That aside, do you agree with Mark Bowman's assessment that without Riley the playoffs are not attainable?

Bowman is a moron. Without Riley it will make it harder but not impossible. Everybody said the same thing in 21 when Acuna went down and we know what happened. Not saying we will win the WS but the point remains.

I mean, the Braves could play .500 ball and still make the playoffs. So quoting Bowman as a point of reference sort of confirms that person needing some help.

I don't like the Braves chances personally.. but I won't declare as fact.

Have to agree about the division. Unless something crazy happens then we are fighting for a WC spot and thats fine. I dont see an advantage to winning the division and sitting around like we did last year.

I want to win the division if for no other reason than seeing Philly win anything makes me nauseas.
That NL East banner would look much better in the battery.

Agree.....I dislike the Phillies so much I would rather anyone go to the division than them even the Mets.

Gio is not a sub par defender

Realistically if the Braves win the division it's likely they are the #3 seed and have to play in the WC round anyways. I believe it's going to be Phillies/Braves in the WC regardless of which team wins the division.

You think moving guys to positions have never played before is going to have less draw backs than what we lose offensively? This is really your stance?

yes, like moving Harper to first, or Freeman to 3rd.. it isn't ideal, but these guys are not your average softball, beer drinking lard asses.. they can make the basic plays, just going to lose out on harder plays.. But how many a week is that going to be. I could look, but not really interested as that scenario won't happen so it is mute.

Gio is not a sub par defender

wanna check that before posting...

he was -5 OAA in 22.. already -2 this year in less than 200 attempts.. he has a weak arm and no range.. he is in fact the definition of a sub par defender and has been for a few years. He was 29th out of 36 qualified 3rd baseman in 22 (his last full season)..

that said, he isn't worse than Riley, who I guess everyone here thinks is a great defender as well. which I guess is why they think there would be this huge drop off from putting someone like Olson at 3rd.. Probably wouldn't be much of a difference if you really look at the numbers.

The numbers are right there for anyone to look at if you want.
