Roster Options with Riley to IL

Expects Yuge Games
Until Swanson gets back I'm thinking this is how things will be:

1) Culberson at SS against righties and Camargo against lefties
2) Duvall and Inciarte will play full-time
3) Joyce is a lefty bat on the bench.

Who do we bring up to take Riley's place. Rafael Ortega has the best OPS of the guys on the Gwinnett roster. He is a lefty hitting outfielder. I think he is the most likely option. If the team prefers a RHH, Ryan LaMarre, another OF, is probably the best option. Lucas Duda is an option, but he needs some ABs in AAA to sharpen up and is very limited positionally.

Another possibility of Alex Jackson, which would allow McCann to do more pinch hitting. Would also make it easier to pinch run for a catcher in a late game situation. Even if we do not go this way for the regular season, it might happen in the playoffs. I believe we carried 3 catchers in the Dodgers series last year.

When Swanson returns (which is now looking like the second half of August) presumably our bench will revert to Culberson, Joyce and Camargo.

We just signed Lane Adams I thought.

Seems he could just be the last option off bench until we activate Swanny.

Guessing Alex Jackson is the one to get the call. He isn't in tonight's Gwinnett lineup and is already on the 40-man.

Sept. 40 man considerations may lead to it being Jackson, as AA has talked of adding Adams in Sept. for speed and another pinch hitter with past success here. plus Duda is another that may be added again too. But both Duda and Adams need this month to get ready first.

If we add Duda that will be like a Culberson/Swanson situation all over again only with Mac/Duda.

If they go LaMarre or Ortega then they could end up DFA'd when Duda and/or Adams are ready.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Blanco as he had some past success in Philly. He can be a tough out when he is going good.

With Charlei starting at SS every game, that leaves only Camargo to fill in at all of the IF positions. Would it not be wise to call up an IFer?Going with a 4 man bench is stupid IMHO especially when playing AL rules. Then you have only a 3 man bench to cover for injury and or situational PH needs. Snits ran out of position players in one of the Twins games didn't he? If Flowers is in game, the bench is LHH McCann, LHH Joyce, and switch hitting(if you can call it that) Camargo. Duvall has reverted back to 2018 hitter so he's not really a good option to start every day IMO. The bench is a mess and made more so by Snits inability to use it wisely.

And also on AA for not grabbing a hitter at the trade deadline.

I thought we were at 7/5 for bench and pen, so it's gotta be a hitter to replace Riley. No idea who it can be.
